I am trying to find out the status of a loved one. When I called the prison where this loved one is housed, I was told he is in general population. Can someone please tell me what this means.

He's in with the regular inmates. He's not being monitored extra, or in any kind of disciplinary state. He's in the standard cells, with standard privelages.

General population is basically what you always see on television shows about prisons. A bunch of cells on a block and interaction with many other prisoners. General population is the most common status in a federal prison and tends to have the most "freedom", if you can call it that. It is pretty standard.

General Population means that this person is let out from his cell at certain intervals to have meals, do work assignments, participate in recreational activities, etc. along with the majority of the inmates. If he was NOT in GP, he'd be in something like solitary confinement, or restricted access where he's only allowed out when the others are back in their cells. Pedofiles and crooked cops now in confinement are usually not in GP as this would put their life in jeapordy.

Hi, I work for a state prison and can assure you that your loved one is fine if he/she is in general pop. what that means is that this person is not a threat to security, nor to self. It also means that this person is following all the rules and regulations of the system and has given no reason to be placed in solitary confinement for misbehavior. General pop gives this person the freedom to move around freely with-in the prison. Good luck to you and I Hope this will help you.

This means he is in the general area where most prisoners reisde, and not in places like disciplinary segregation, administrative segregation, prison ward, etc.

I use to work in corrections at the United States Disciplinary Barracks, at Fort Leavenworth, KS back in the early 70's.

Means hes in a dorm or cellblock and and not under lockdown or segregation. Means hes generally "free" to socialize with other inmates, work a prison job..and buy stuff from the canteen as well as recieve visitors.

Just means he can mingle with the other prisoners. He's not in a segregation unit for his own protection like rapists and child molesters are. Rapists and child molesters dont have a fun time in prison the other inmates would harm them if they weren't placed in separate cellblocks.

He is just that, in the general population in the prison. He is not secluded from the others. He gets to mingle with every assbag in the joint.

GENERAL POPULATION MEANS BONDING WITH PEOPLE WHO REALLY DON'T WANT TO BE BONDED WITH. THIS ACCOUNTS FOR ALL THE RAPES AND KILLINGS THAT GO ON INSIDE AT NIGHT. PRISON CONSIST OF GENERAL POPULATION AND PROTECTIVE CUSTODY. IF HE'S NOT ONE HE'S MOST LIKELY IN THE OTHER. ASK THE WARDEN AND GIVE HIM HIS FULL NAME AND HOW YOU'RE RELATED TO HIM. THEY SHOULD HANDEL THE REST.

It means your loved one is in with the other loved ones not all by himself in a cage.

I think you might want to rethink your love for that one. If he ever gets out your life might be worse than it is now since at least now he can't commit another crime, disappear on you, or do anything violent to you and your family. Get over him and get a real life.
