My mother hired an attorney to do something for her. She spoke to her on the phone and was told a price. When she arrived at the office, she was told it was going to cost $300 MORE. My mother went ahead and agreed to it (before consulting me b/c I would have told her to forget it). My mother goes in for another meeting with her and is told she owes another $700. I know this is against the law----I'm thinking the Consumer Fraud Act. Am I right about this or am I just making something out of nothing? I think she's ripping my mother off because she's 62 years old. Should I take this to another lawyer and see about suing this lawyer? I'm thinking about having a talk with her myself. I won't let her do this to my mother.

Then shouldn't we call other rapists "woman lovers" or "man lovers"? Don't the powers-that-be know rape from love? It's not like the intelligentsia didn't know the English translation of that Greek word. I mean why call it "love" just because it happens to a child?

I have a moral question for you. This is an imaginary situation, but I think it is fun to decide what one would do. The situation: You are in the Middle East, and there is a huge flood in progress. Many homes have been lost, water supplies compromised and structures destroyed. Let's say that you're a photographer and getting still photos for a news service, traveling alone, looking for particularly poignant scenes. You come across Osama bin Laden who has been swept away by the floodwaters. He is barely hanging on to a tree limb and is about to go under. You can either put down your camera and save him, or take a Pulitzer Prize winning photograph of him as he loses his grip on the limb. So, here's the question and think carefully before you answer the question below:

I live in Fresno California.
First of all, where can I find an official document on our city's noise ordinance?

Anyway, our neighbor has been building a pool and jackhammering all hours of the day and we got so sick of it because we need to go to sleep at night that a month or so ago we started putting the radio on in our backyard to muffle the jackhammering. We put the spanish channel on. Our neighbors had the nerve to call the cops on us even though it wasn't as loud as their jackhammering. They said it was racist because his workers were mexican. Is this bullsh it or what?

I will never bow to America and if America was to try to force its will on me I would fight them with my last breath. How many of you are ashamed that Blair is George Bushes Faithful dog. How many of you think Blair should face trial for treason against his own people.

Seriously, how can Hollywood have the nerve and the insensitivity to glamourize the deaths of thousands of Americans? I saw the preview on TV today, and I honestly want to throw up. They are turning this movie into some lame, romance movie with my previously favorite Coldplay song in the background. Every single person who would conceivably go to this film was alive when the attacks actually occured. I cannot see many 5 year olds going to this film and semi-appreciating its meaning. I mean, make this film in 75 years, but not yet. Anyone who goes to this film, or had any part in it is un-American as far as I'm concerned, and is a complete disgrace to our country. I don't think any profoundly thinking people in our country have forgotten what occured, and I shuddered when I heard the guy on TV say "World Trade Center.." all obnoxiously and faux-dramatically at the end of the preview. I hope this film absolutley and completley fails in the box office-- showing America's real stength.

I have called my sister several times to pick up the dog. She refused and sent me the notice of it needing shots. I feel that she has given up ownership and i can do with the dog as i please, but it is a registered dog in her name and has the tags on its collar.

I loaned my (really nice) flute to my (now) husband's friend in college for a woodwind class. I never see him, but I know he's a DJ in the area, so I know he's accessible. It's been almost 10 years and I want it back to teach and to give to my daughter. My brother in law has seen him since and reminded him and gave him our number, but nothing ever came of it. Should I hunt him down at a club or should I just file something in small claims court? Thanks!
