New Orleans must be rebuilt in some fashion for the simple reason that the port is absolutely critical to our economy. How else would we move agricultural and other products from the Midwest to the rest of the world? These goods have to travel down the Mississippi River, and there has to be a port at the end of the river. The city itself is also important for the tourism industry and for historical reasons. But it is not necessary or probably even smart to rebuild it exactly as it was, and it will likely be a much smaller city that it was before for a very long time. The process of rebuilding New Orleans will be essentially perpetual.

Yes we can build New Orleans back but! It will be a while so don't expect it to appear perfect any time soon. Before we even start thinking about building New Orleans again we have to prevent the other Hurricanes.

Of course. The city had to be built in the first place so why couldn't we build it again? It will take a long time, but it will happen. New Orleans should be rebuilt because of the long history and unique culture that it has.

New Orleans' geographical location is at a huge disadvantage to this problem. We can continue to rebuild it and this will happen again, and again, and again. It truly is a tragedy and I wish that it was logical to rebuild. In all honesty though, it is not economically and financially efficient.

It is probably possible, but I can think only in decades and billions of dollars ... and many investors may wonder if it would be worth it, given the number of severe hurricanes hitting the Gulf Coast lately. I'm glad I don't live on the coast.

Yes, it can be done.
It is not practical. It will cost too much. If they could do it, it would take 30 years or more to get it resembling what it used to look like.
