How did crime come to be? How do you define crime-- is it that which is illegal, or is the law in place to discourage that which is inherently criminal? Is crime fundamental to human existence or a curable condition? Is it desirable to cure crime?

I have been on medical leave from a DOT regulated job. Dr's say I can't return to work yet (must pass federal phisical criteria first, first open date to be tested is after short term leave runs out)). Employer says that after short term leave runs out they will terminate my employment regardless of medical condition.
Legal or not?

I can understand why we need to imprison for life these creeps. However, the death penalty? I hear many people say that rapists and child molesters need to be put to death. But it's so easy to accuse a man of rape, and if you are a jilted lover, you could have sex with him, and there you have the DNA evidence you need to frame him for what would then be a capital crime.

So many people have been accused of rape and found innocent. Or convicted, but later exonerated. The death penalty for a rapist would be like life imprisonment for a pot smoker... overkill.
(Forgive the pun.)

At least life imprisonment allows for appeal and to refute the circumstantial evidence.

Now, I have an opinion on this, (I am obviously against it) but is there anyone out there who is in support of capital punishment for rapists or child molesters?

Would statutory rape count? A 17 year old has sex with someone who is just barely under the age of consent. Now he gets death? Because of love?

Some native americans were taken slaves and released or escaped. Some africans escaped or were freed. Some africans immigrated to the US after slavery and were never slaves. Many people are of mixed ancestory and some have no clue as to their actual ancestory. For example if I'm 1/64 african do I get a 1/64 portion of the hypothetical reparations?

I understand the reason why handguns are illegal, but the outcome has been that we have a system in which only criminals carry handguns. Is this sensible?

I don't consider myself a racist by any means, but it just bugs me that a black person can do no wrong in his eyes. To me that is the definition of racism.

This is all givin to them just for coming over here. And when we go over there the only thing we would get is a bullet. Tell me how this is right or just. I think the good ol' USA needs to care about its own people FIRST. By the way, send our troops home soon.

Its true. In 1933 Roosevelt declared a state of emergency because of the Great Depression. It was never repealed after his death, so it continues to be in effect. I'm quite sure that that leaves the US constitution null and void. Be afraid.

All western democracies punish members of their military when they violate rules of engagement. Do countries like the ones mentioned above even have such regulations? How about Al-Qaeda and the Taliban. Do they have prisons where they put criminal members who've abused their enemies?

Some houses near Stanford are restricted for sale only to faculty and high level staff. I would think this would violate the fair housing requirements.

American people are so self concerned that our countrys system of checks and balences are slowly becoming one big joke. When is the last time Bush got checked on any of his unconstitutional actions? For example, Guantanamo Bay, Propaganda for war on Iraq, Phone tapping American citizens secretly and his lack of separation between church and state. When is the last time we as American people made let it be known that we care about the greater welfare of this country as it pertains to us all in the end?

2 hosp. committed malpractice. My walking out of one hosp. actually saved my life. A second hosp. left a drain tube in me and, my Lawyers commited legal malpractice. I am now disabeled, however, I know I saved my own life. Many other errors happened the American people need to know what to do. My life is forever changed, I've lost everything and my medical bills are incredible. My daughter was unable to go to her prom, senior trip, get her ring do any of the things one looks forward to in their Senior year. I have been in and out of hospitals and atty. offices for 7 years. A Judge was asked by the Appelate Court on my case and 16 others to remove himself from these cases--WHY-- How is it in America this can happen. Why was this Judge asked to remove himself from my case. By the way 2 of my cases have been thrown out on a technecality???? Any thoughts or clues I just don't know anymore. Thanks for listening

If a woman has her new husband adopt a child as his own, does the biological father still have to pay child support? Upon signing over paternal rights papers, does Child Support automatically stop? If not, what needs to be done to make it stop?

Okay, we have a 3 year old daughter. I pay child support, but dont get any visitations because i live a bunch of states away. My ex just got remarried, and she said that her new husband wants to adopt our daughter as his own. They called me and told me this. They said they have seen a lawyer and such. I would have to sign over parental rights in this case, and i am fine with this because he makes a great dad. So, what will happen...like will they send me papers in the mail to sign or what? Or, will the child support office be informed, and send me the papers, etc. ?
