If a woman has her new husband adopt a child as his own, does the biological father still have to pay child support? Upon signing over paternal rights papers, does Child Support automatically stop? If not, what needs to be done to make it stop?

Once you have the court order from the adoption, the order needs to be sent to the Child Support agency for any current CS to be stopped. However, the adoption will NOT stop any PAST DUE CS from being paid, especially if any is owed to the state.

Yes, the child support should stop since the biological father is not longer affiliated with the child.

If the father has signed over his parental rights, then he is no longer legally responsible financially for the child. Sorry, but no more child support, unless he wants to.

Agreed. If you didnt want that responsibility, Should have never had sex.. No matter what there is always a chance.. The child will more then likely want to know who you are when they get older as would any child that didnt have a parent in their life. They will have questions.. You need to keep your rights.. They child may need you one day.

once you give up all parental rights, you are no longer legally responsible for said child. And if there is an adoption to boot, then you really aren't responsible. Now, if the mother was on any type of state aide before you gave up your rights, then chances are you will have to repay a portion of the aide.
