I can understand why we need to imprison for life these creeps. However, the death penalty? I hear many people say that rapists and child molesters need to be put to death. But it's so easy to accuse a man of rape, and if you are a jilted lover, you could have sex with him, and there you have the DNA evidence you need to frame him for what would then be a capital crime.
So many people have been accused of rape and found innocent. Or convicted, but later exonerated. The death penalty for a rapist would be like life imprisonment for a pot smoker... overkill.
(Forgive the pun.)
At least life imprisonment allows for appeal and to refute the circumstantial evidence.
Now, I have an opinion on this, (I am obviously against it) but is there anyone out there who is in support of capital punishment for rapists or child molesters?
Would statutory rape count? A 17 year old has sex with someone who is just barely under the age of consent. Now he gets death? Because of love?

Bluffmike:
a) you don't know my mother
b) I have no sister
c) I'm single
How much I love those close to me is not the issue. It's not even related to this topic of discussion. Please keep your arrogant and thoroughly ignorant opinions to yourself if you cannot even refrain from bringing my mother of all people into this discussion about national policy.
I would appreciate it if you have nothing to contribute except self-aggrandizing remarks.

When you are raped, the rapist kill in so many ways. My sister was 17, in high school, and her goal was to go into the Navy after graduating. Well a man named Curtis Herring, a complete STRANGER changed her life forever. My sister was walking home from work, in the daylight hours, he pulled up, jumped out and held a gun to her head and forced her into the car. And I must say she was a virgin. He took her down a dead end rode. He raped her, stuck bottles up her vagina, stuck sticks up her, sodomized her, and if that wasn't enough, he tied her jeans around her neck, she was completely naked, and dragged her through the woods by the legs of the jeans. Well she passed out, he thought she was dead, so he left to go get his brothers to help him get rid of the body, little did he know she was playing dead. He left her in the woods, after he was gone , my sister crawled onto some teenagers porch and they helped her and put cloths on her and called the police. Well, my sister thought he would walk free, she couldn't have been so wrong. He got a total of 175 years with NO PAROLE, biggest rape sentence ever handed down in NC history. He should have got death. Took the doctors 6 months to get all the rocks and debre out of her back, she cant wear tank tops, her body is badly scared and so his her spirit, it will be with her until the day she dies. I hope that bastard rots in hell

I absolutely believe that a rapist/child molester "murders" the soul and the spirit of their victim, and therefore is eligible for the death penalty. The child is forever changed, and while the child may be able to move past the flashbacks, the fear of being alone, the lack of self esteem, etc., the memory is always there.
Statutory rape is something that is not black-and-white. Many times, a parent angry at a minor child for having sex will press charges against the older person out of spite, to "teach a lesson" to the kid involved. This part is very grey and can be argued a million ways.

All conficted child molesters should be put to death. With all this "technology" we have appeals or becoming a thing of the past. As far as the 17 year old is concerned its all ways "love" at 17. But I am on the fence about the rapist part because some women would do that.

Any accused, charged with an offence punishable by death has an automatic right of appeal.
However, I do not think the death penalty for rape ought to be implemented for the mere reason that it will increase the statistics on murder cases. The guilty party, may choose to kill their victims, as it they will have a higher chance of getting acquitted.
Bear in mind, that in most rape cases, the victim is the only witness, the rest are all circumstantial evidence.
So, I am not for the death penalty in rape cases.

Pizzaman,As a child victim of a molester of multiple children and teens.I am for the death penalty. It has profoundly effected my life and will until I die.
As for Rapists, its not a crime of passion its abuse and violent. What if it was your mother, sister or even your daughter.
Life confinement costs us all about $50,000 + a year.Chemical castration, may cause them to reek revenge,an start murdering people, for what was done to them.As for statutory rape, you can't kill the kid for your daughter be stupid and immature, but should have sometime behind bars,as a wake-up call.
For the low life woman, who would accuse a male of rape and its a total lie,she shall face the death penalty too.For putting to death a innocent man.

The punishment should fit the crime.
An appropriate punishment for rape would be castration or perhaps being chemically neutered, not death.
As for statutory rape? They should find a different name for that. I'm not saying it's not a crime. I just wouldn't call it rape.

I haven't heard anything about that movement. Are you sure that your source isn't talking about rapists who "murder" their victims?
I certainly wouldn't be for any measure that applies death to the act of raping or child molesting. While these acts are horrible, repeat offenders should be given life.

I dont believe in the death penalty because, who are we to decide who lives or who dies? That is truly up to God. But if the rapist confess' to their crimes than they should get a life sentence and they should have the same thing done to them that they did to that person.

If someone rapes my wife, daughter, or any of my female kin, he will get the death penalty. Too bad your mom and sister and wife aren't loved as much.
