Law & Ethics - June 2006

My brother and his wife are trying to get an abortion. Where they live, it is perfectly legal. I believe people have a right to protest, but I don't believe they have a right to PHYSICALLY stop them from entering the clinic or threaten them. One protester threatened to kill both of them (physically end their lives) if they walk through the door to the clinic. Some other protesters stood in front of the door so they could not enter. They ended up going home without going into the clinic. Later that night a rock came through their window hitting the wife in the head sending her to the hospital. A note was attached to the rock claiming they were going to kill them if they have the abortion. Apparently, one of the protesters took the license plate number from their car and found out their address from that information. The protesting group is denying any involvement in this case and is threatening to sue if my brother and his wife “slander” them.

But it’s considered ok to send thousands to their death based on lies and distorted reality, and to turn our once free country into a neo-fascist state? I'm not condoning what Clinton did. I think he's an adultering pig. But, how was he impeachably worse than Mr. Clueless?

This just amazes me...

1. Current administration's 911 report declared Iraq did not have anything to do with 911. This is an absolute but some ppl still want to argue with it.

2. We r participating in the torture of prisoners through what is called redension. (We send them to a country that does torture so we can say we didn't do it then get information given back to us) Even C. Rice herself has admitted we do this.

3. The UN was great and wonderful until they didn't do what we wanted. If the UN was so corrupt then why did we even go to them for Iraqi war approval? And think for just a sec... when did the allegations of corruption start? =when they wouldn't back what Bush wanted. No corruption has been proven btw.

4. Some say Saddam stated he had WMD beforethe war. Saddam himself went on 60 minutes prior to our invastion stating he didn't have them. How can ppl just make up this lie? And why is that even relevant?

Why can't neocons see truth when it's slapping them in the face?

All employers excluding construction, restaurant and the like will not hire felons even when the crime was a DUI (no injuries, just REALLY drunk) and when it happened 5+ years ago. If the felony never gets off your record then you may not be able to ever work in a professional field again even when you're a college graduate with a proven track record of successs with years of experience. Do you think that is fair, is the justice system helping those people and protecting and serving?

Take for example lawsuits brought against doctors or hospitals, or drug manufacturers, that do not actually prove fault, but receive huge settlements for trial lawyers and drive up costs for average citizens.

Okay, to my understanding marriage is a religious thing. Marriage is something sanctioned by god or cermonies/rituals for other religions. So why is the government involved? I thought there is something in the consitution stating "separation of church and state." If ppl who are homosexual want to get married I think that is something that should be up to the priest or person who marries them. The only reason I can see that it would be a state problem is when it comes down to taxes and things as such. Is that what the deal is over? I personally don't care who gets married to whom, thats a personal choice, but I'm just trying to understand why such the fuss?

My brother does not have enough money to hire an attorney. He's going to be appointed a public defender, but I'm nervous that he/she may not be as competent as a hired attorney.
