Here in Australia we often hear of how badly US workers are treated, with wages forced down to a minimum and medical insurance tied to their job.

As education and training offer ways for workers to raise their social status and their ability to advocate for themselves, and given that adult education is so expensive, I wondered if US unions provide free or low-cost education?

There must be many workers whose literacy is very low, and who do not know about the dangers of their jobs or how to protect themselves.

The Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) provides this kind of education:

Okay. My brother, who's a big fan of shopping online over coffee shop wifi, just had his credit card number stolen and used. Apparently, the guy used it to do a lot of shopping online and through catalogues. Here's what I don't get: how is this not the stupidest crime ever? Couldn't the credit card company just track down the addresses stuff was shipped to and have the guy arrested? Or do these people have some way to make sure that doesn't happen? It just seems like a really, really stupid thing to do--not to mention dang inconsiderate of my darling bro.

It is completely right if someone doesn't agree with it then just don't do it don't push your crap beliefs on me. It is because of religion that this is illegal (i love Oregon) the government could make a deal with the life incuranse companys but they would lose all vote of super religious people

I wanted to know if I was fired for discrimination. I started a job on August 20th, I was told by my employer that they would accomodate any doctor's appointments that I had, which they did. I did have to call in sick and had to leave early due to illness associated with the pregnancy for a total of 6 times; two of which were consecutive, so according to their rules, only 5 times. I have a very complicated pregnancy due to my own heart problems and diabetes and my employer was aware of this. I was even taken by ambulance on one occasion from work because of a heart episode I had. I had to miss work last Tuesday b/c of complications and was fired Wednesday upon returning from work citing too many absences. I do want to note that another employee hired 2 weeks after I was missed about 2.5 weeks from work last month due to her own medical issue, yet was not fired. She also missed two times after that. Do I have a case of discrimination?

Did you know that Billions of taxpayer dollars were going to be used to pay these guys who make 5X or more than any U.S. soldier?

Would knowing this beforehand have made an impact in your support?

BJP returns back to power lead by Narendra Modi with good majority. What about the punters who had given no chance for Modi victory, I hope they must be down with millions of rupees now.

I am currently going through a background check for a police department. What do you do if they ask you about something but you honestly dont remember doing it....Im talking about something small not something major like smoking dope, of course you will remember that. And it was probably something that happened many many years ago. Im 31 but if it was something that happened back when you were 15 or 16.

I was watching a small clip from a funeral on TV the other day and it showed a speaker conducting what i guess was roll call. He called the names of two soldiers who responded with "here, sir" then they called the name of what i assume was the fallen soldier three times. First it was corporal Lance (I'm just making this name up) then after a moment of silence he said corporal John Lance. Then after another silence he said Corporal John Andrew Lance. I was just wondering what significance this held since i've never been to a military funeral. The widow just absolutely lost it during this part so I was just thinking i want to better understand it.

If a person walks out of wal-mart with a stolen item at hand and the greeter asks for a receipt but the person continuously walks out of the store without showing them and then drives away in a car that was parked out front...what are the chances of a camera getting them on tape and following through with catching them? Wouldn't they need both Surveillance proof, and a license plate to catch the theft?

The thing is, if the greeter was only going by instinct that it was stolen because they were not shown a receipt. Are they likely to follow up on the incident even with all the busy holiday shoppers?
