Here in Australia we often hear of how badly US workers are treated, with wages forced down to a minimum and medical insurance tied to their job.

As education and training offer ways for workers to raise their social status and their ability to advocate for themselves, and given that adult education is so expensive, I wondered if US unions provide free or low-cost education?

There must be many workers whose literacy is very low, and who do not know about the dangers of their jobs or how to protect themselves.

The Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) provides this kind of education:

there is a lot of turn over of people in the us that don't understand the dangers of their jobs and end up getting hurt... i don't believe there is an education process with in the unions as there aren't many unions to begin with.... why would they educate them... it may make them smarter which i beleive the us doesnt want to many smart people that may cause problems in the future...
cheers

some may, but I don't think it's a common practice, as most unions seem to focus on retaining workers rights and not re-education...

and also, education costs have risen DRAMATICALLY over the past 6 years... I graduated in 2000 from a university and was talking to a friend's little sister about school, who happened to go to the same university... and the tuition costs have DOUBLED (and some) at that school... and as I understand, they have went up 40 percent on average nationwide...

I'm glad I'm out of school...

Some do, some don't.

The ones that do are losing members as they continue to bankrupt American companies.

The unions that are growing provide nothing but hype.

And please don't believe everything you hear. Our government and media don't tell us the truth, so you surely are not hearing all true items either.
