Okay technically he won't get free medical care depending on where you live and what hospital you go to for his medical care.

If paternity is determined and he signs the papers saying he is the baby's father, it will make it easier. Now once paternity is determined, your son will be able to have some benefits. If you are able to get to a Military installation and they have a Military hospital on that base, you will be able to use that facility but only for his care. Because you two are not married, your son should be able to get a military ID card (once paternity is established, this is because you are not married and you are not together and living differently). If you are not close to a military base then you will have to use a civilian hospital but it will be at a reduced rate. And you will have to pay some copays.

You will also be able to have your son's father sign him up on the dental plan (United Concordia or another name Tricare Dental Plan). There is a monthly fee for this but it is usually taken directly out of the military members Pay. But there is also copays for each time you use the dentist except for 2 free yearly visits for routine exams and care.

Once your son turns 10, he will be able to shop at the commissary and exchange. I am not sure if you would be able to bring him in until he turns that age, if you do he might have limited priviledges.

You will be able to get on some bases, not all bases are offlimits. I know most army bases have strict guidelines but with proper picture ID you can get onto most bases.

Your best bet is to determine if your son's father is going to claim him and then go from there. Talk to a lawyer who is fimilar with Military Law about both the benefits that come from his father and about child support.

You are not however going to be given housing or BAH for housing. You will not be able to get an ID card for yourself. You will not be able to get any medical care for yourself.

Good luck.

Once the child is born and paternity has been proven, he will then be enrolled in Deers, to get Medical and his father needs to enroll him into the dental ..you will get child support not sure what the Courts will make him pay but it has nothing to do with the Navy, and the Military can not take pay out to ensure child support gets paid, only the Court system can do this.

Good Luck I wish you the best for you and your baby, no matter what happens be the best mother you can be and a great role model for your Son..
Armywife & Soldier

I KNOW YOU ASKED FOR YOUR SON, WHY ARE PEOPLE TRYING ANSWER THIS TELLING YOU WHAT YOU WILL NOT GET? I think its clear you understand why you wont be entitle to anything.. no reason for people to be like this.

You are not eligible for housing unless you are married to an Active Duty soldier. My husband is activated reserves and we aren't even eligible for on base housing. Anyway, if your son is established as the navy guy's dependent he will get free medical (you won't however, and it would be difficult if you live near a base because there is the hassle of you as a civilian getting on base - at least that's who it is with the Army) and child support will be worked out with Dfas to an account you must specify.

just because you got knocked up by a military man does not mean that you are entitled to any benefits from the military. any kind of care that you get for your child will be through DHS and everything will be coming from his pocket. child support, dental, hospital insurance, he has to pay for it. he has to be a dendent to get a military ID and use base BX or commissary.the only way for this to happen is to marry him, or give him custody of the child

It is more clear cut if you are married. You should have waited. If you can establish paternity then you should receive most of the benefits that your avarice little soul desires. Namely free medical for the baby (big benefit) and probably a percentage of child support. I don't think you would get free housing since you are not a wife. If you're looking for a big pay out, forget it.
