I really don't want to be on a Jury. Heck, I don't even want to have to go to the instructional class, or the selections.

I'm in NH, and my older brother is a convicted felon in Mass... for most of the rest of his life.

Other than that my record is squeaky clean. I have no relatives in Law inforcement and no tickets or accidents on my driving record. No law suits, no anything really.

It couldn't have come at a worse time. I'm an accountant, and the instructions and selection are the week of our January month end close, and my company was just aquired by a huge fortune 50 company and we are trying to impress so none of us gets canned. Plus one other accountant in my dept just quit last week, and our boss is on Maternity leave... so it's already work overload enough.

I just don't want to do it and hope that having a convicted relative will help me get off the roster!! Will it?????

im renting a room from some old lady in foster city, california. i moved in on the first of december. we have an agreement. on the agreement it says..i'll pay rent, i'll be there for 6months, and i'll pay for my own internet. i only sleep there 2-3times a week. on the 11th, the 4th night that i slept there, she told me i'm using way too much water and told me not to wash my hair everyday and don't take baths only shower and she'll raise my rent.

last night i talked to her when my mom was there. i told her if shes gonna raise my rent then i'll have to move. then she said...we have water shortage...only shower no bath. so i said, what if i have to take a bath? she said no!

since she's not letting me do this and do that...so do i have the right to move out? since on the agreement it says...pay rent..i'll stay there for 6months...i'll pay for my internet..

like "Hey...you could be living in Afghanistan!" I really don't understand this "argument" at all. Yes, America is a better country to live in than Afghanistan. But...My God...is that really where you want to put the bar? Is that really all we should expect of one of the wealthiest countries in the world? That it be better than Afghanistan?

How about we make it a national motto "America...Hey, you gotta admit, we're better than Afghanistan!" or "America...You'd rather be here than in...say...Somalia, right?"

My recruiter told me that the cutoff date to apply to ROTC was one's junior year of high school. However, I found out it's the first semester of one's sophomore year...in college! ROTC allows one to graduate from college with financial assistance, but all of my college is paid for already. With ROTC, it's easier: no BMT, just 4 weeks of OSC.

My dilemma is that I already signed the Oath of Enlisted (was sworn in), and in the DEP (deploying in June). If I had known that joining the ROTC was an option, I would have gladly taken it.

Also, if I decline the enlistment, do I get a record stating that I failed to join?

I need the sources because I need to present them to my recruiter and ensure a healthy decline, and not one built on statements of unsure reality; I need to know whether or not they're genuine facts

I posted an answer to a question regarding my belief that society is brainwashed by the media (which was not profain in the least I might add) and my account was deleted. What happened to the right of Freedom of Speech?

I should be allowed to post my beliefs just as everyone else express theirs.

This psycho girl (who was my friend but obviously not anymore) and i got into a verbal argument at work. It was a lot of questioning on my part, and her calling me names. I walked away and said "dont worry you'll get yours someday" but what i meant by that was karma is gonna kick her ***, not me actually doing something. So she she said something threatening in return, but i can't remember what it was. I found out at work today that she called work to ask where the police station was. Supposedly went there and reported me for "threatening to mess with her car". We never even mentioned her car! She obviously is falsely accusing me. Do you think i can get in trouble? This was yesterday and the cops have not contacted me yet. What precautions should i take?

The current cost of the Iraq war has been $600 billion dollars, and will soon be 1 Trillion dollars---all of it on the Federal VISA card at the moment.

Rather than past this crushing debt on to the next generation, why not tax all Americans now, so as to pay for it "as it goes" year by year?

What better way to "support the troops", then by actually supporting them out of our paychecks?

In these three areas -- religion, wealth and power -- Liberals show us that their aim is to reduce us all to the lowest common denominator. Many years ago, I read Kurt Vonnegut's 1961 short story, "Harrison Bergeron." The story took place in a future time in which, as the story begins, "everybody was finally equal." Those deemed too intelligent were fitted with devices to interrupt their thoughts. Those thought too graceful or strong were forced to wear weights to slow them down. The faces of those who were too beautiful disappeared behind masks. No greater horror could await mankind than a world in which everyone is reduced to the lowest common denominator instead of being encouraged to be the absolute best they can be. Yet that, it turns out, is precisely what Liberals want.

Most of us realise that anyone not afraid of hard work has a chance to do well. This is especially true in America, where the only limits are one's own ambition and ability. Liberals love the progressive tax system, which takes a greater percentage of your money as you earn more. It's not fair that you should have more money than others, so your money should be forcibly redistributed to those who make less, in terms of government-run programs and services. With all the loopholes in our Byzantine tax code, however, the truly rich hardly pay at all. Theresa Heinz-Kerry, wife of the Democratic candidate for President in 2004, paid an effective tax rate of only 12.4% in 2003. Her reported income for that year was over five million dollars -- and that's just what her highly-paid accountants couldn't hide in tax shelters most Americans could never afford. That's a far lower rate than the average American pays... and the average American is worth quite a bit less than a million dollars.

Liberals are dedicated to the Marxist idea that there's a finite amount of wealth in the world. That's why they insist on punishing "the rich" (which can be defined as "anyone with a job") for having too much money. If you have more money than you need, they feel, you are somehow keeping the excess from someone else who needs it. Liberals like the idea that everyone should end up with the same amount of money after taxes redistribute the wealth from top to bottom. However, there would be no incentive whatsoever to work harder, better or faster than you absolutely need to, or to improve yourself in any way, if you end up with the same result no matter what. That's why China, North Korea and Cuba need men with guns to control their own population, as the USSR once did. But try explaining that to a Liberal.

I'm a 24 year old American, and I'm starting to think it might be a good idea to devote the next few years of my life toward obtaining a better citizenship. I'm tired of paying big bucks to be screwed by a exploitative health insurance situation. I'm tired of my taxes going to kill people in foreign countries while our schools and social services go down the drain. I don't want to spend my golden years working some crap job until I die so I can afford my medication. And that's not the life I want for my future children.

So, what's the best way to obtain a better citizenship? I'm think EU, but I've heard good things about New Zealand as well.

Any advice would be appreciated. Please, no jingoist rants in defense of America. You're free to love it. I just don't.
