like "Hey...you could be living in Afghanistan!" I really don't understand this "argument" at all. Yes, America is a better country to live in than Afghanistan. But...My God...is that really where you want to put the bar? Is that really all we should expect of one of the wealthiest countries in the world? That it be better than Afghanistan?

How about we make it a national motto "America...Hey, you gotta admit, we're better than Afghanistan!" or "America...You'd rather be here than in...say...Somalia, right?"

Yes, there are worse places... whatever the situation is, you can always find something worse. But doesn't it make more sense to compare ourselves to other first world nations? Or wealthier nations? Shouldn't we consider ways in which nations more on our level might be doing better than us in certain respects? Like why so many of them have a higher standard of living?

Sharon- shouldn't I have just as much of a right to try to implement change and improvement here?

Waffles- Unfortunately, I don't think it works that way. Otherwise, I would love to consider taking you up on it.

Why do people try to verbally attack America by comparing it to third-world countries? It's the same thing. Both sides use this tactic, in which making a comparison to the extreme, or worst case or best case estimates, gives a misleading understanding or expectation in an attempt to distort the reality of the situation. If you want an all-encompassing, unbiased quality of life comparison among countries, the United Nation's Human Development Index is a good place to start.

My response to all "American Patriot(s)"

Because they do not want think how the rich get richer at the expense of ordinary US citizens with the US Constitution being eroded.

Big brother from the novel "1984" by George Orwell is alive and well. Surveillance like in London is becoming a reality. The British cops that killed a Brazilian man in a subway will not face murder charges.

They do not want to admit that there are flaws and so they say why do you go to another country.

If the US is truly the best explain why so many Americans have sites protesting about the Democrats and Republicans being in Collusion http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collusion

Even US military veterans have protested so what about them?
Would you tell them to go to another country?

What do you think about this US Army veteran?
He wrote how CORRUPT and VILE is the White House and Wal Mart. The FBI(1-310-477-6565) harassed and he was fired because of a liar Gabriel H Peregrini.

China is now buying mortgages and our leaders, Democrats and Republicans, and the captains of industry have sold out the USA for their quest of profit.

US President Dwight David Eisenhower telling the US about the dangers of the US Military-Industrial Complex that has profited from wars

Would the "American Patriots" call them traitors?

The true traitors are George Walker Bush, the Republicans, the Democrats, and Corporate America that worship money NOT US citizens.

You must be only getting limited information.

Michael Moore searched the richest countries for alternatives to health care.

As with anything it has on going maintenance and repair.

Wise persons will continue to compare and analyze the best and the worst now and from the past. Reveal wrongs and attempt to correct them.

I would not imagine how hard it is to even get a handful of people on the same page about any subject.

I believe myself to be stating facts and receive nothing but argument for my efforts.

They seem quite simple to me.
Anyone using others money has some obligation to report its use and not use it for evil.

Please try to see the message in the comparison.

Gotta tell you, I don't make comparisons between America & other countries! In my book, there is no need to compare my country with any other! I have never felt the need to defend this country & have never been asked to do so by anyone. I love it & if others don't, they are free to leave. I see no need for a national motto & don't understand why you feel that we do. Believe it or not, I thank God every night for letting me be born in this country, there is no where else I would rather be, bar none! America speaks for it's self, it needs no motto.

I agree; for what reasons is America "better" than so many other countries? Maybe because it was founded on lies, theft, deceit, violence, force and death and became rich country by taking advantage of it's own people. It's not an honorable bar that was set, so I agree, there should be more to it.

I think we live great here, but there are definitely downsides. My biggest issue? It goes to the heart of our democracy and that is our electoral system--and how we count and "keep track" (or not) of our precious votes.

We are just not as transparent as our European/Canadian counterparts. Everything is done out in the open there with PAPER TRAILS.

In the U.S. we are more "secret" about the process and overly protective of the codes and programs pertaining to our hackable machines. Yes, we have a hackable, non-transparent democracy and I think it's a really big deal.

If you don't like it here, Leave! Their are planes leaving daily. I served this nation and some of my friends will never come home because of their love for this country. Name one country that gives you as many freedoms without recourse other than the USA. Just one, you can't do it. this country has its problems but other countries issues are far worse. With that said if you think the grass is greener on the other side, do us a favor and hop that fence and stay their.

Excellent point. Real Americans understand when our country is on the wrong path and are willing to admit it and try to make it better. But many just make excuses and say "well we're not as bad as (insert horrible place)".

It's sad, but it's what arrogance will get you.
