excellent idea. Like the war bonds of WWII. Then we would see how much the American people truly support the what is going on.
I myself support the cause. We need to stomp out Islamic fascism and free women in the Middle East.

No thank you.
Contrary to what most believe, the national debt is not some scarey boogeyman type of thing that will enslave our grandchildren as they try and repay it. We merely roll it over and pay interest, as we've been doing for around 225 years. As long as the economy, and thus tax revenues keep growing, the interest takes less and less of a bite of our federal budget.
In 1996, it took 14% of our federal budget. In 2006, it took 10%, even with the run up in debt, because the economy grew faster than the debt in those 10 years.
Besides, you are just too late. The federal budget is only running fairly small deficits right now. I think last year was something like $130 Billion. That's a pittance compared to former deficits. Why would you want to raise taxes and hurt the economy at this point?

lol, what makes you think people have the money? American savings as a whole is at its lowest since the great depression. What do you think is going to happen when bank accounts run dry? Duh, depression because the economy is not only getting worse but people won't have any saved money to get through the inflation. Using a credit card isn't the brightest move because it will result in more debt. Heck, tent cities are popping up across the country due to people not having homes from the mortgage crisis.
You should reword your question. How about the government steal money from its citizens while the citizens still have money to steal.

I've called for this before. And I would support it on the ballot. The problem, Americans already give a lot to taxes, so some on the left would argue they shouldn't pay because they oppose the war, others on the right would argue they pay to much in taxes. Either way, the government needs to practice some fiscal responsiblity, Dems and Repubs.
In the $70 billion war bill just passed, 7.1 billion dollars in earmarks got through. That is how we can cut down on spending.

Not politically feasible, but if it were...
I would love to see how quickly all of the pro-war sentiment would melt away once people had to start paying out of pocket for America's mistakes (the war not the soldiers).
Does everyone realize that we could have begun a universal health care system or stabilized social security with the money from the war?

How about an idiot tax? You'd be paying full rate buddy.
That's UNCONSTITUTIONAL- If you don't like the Constitution then get out of America. Oh and Bush'd never buy it.. Then he'd have a <15% approval rating. To stay popular(ISH) during the war Bush lowered taxes, a maniacial decision.
Support our troops by bringing them home!

What better way to support our troops?
I think they should all be brought home..
Did you know, that of all the candidates running for president, Ron Paul has received more military donations than all of the others?
Ron Paul is the only candidate who will actually "support" our troops, and they know it.
That right there says a lot.
I pay too much taxes as it is, if I am slammed with another, I'm gonna have to join the other half of the nation and collect welfare.

Absolutely. That's a tax I'd pay with a smile; knowing that every cent has the potential to kill an islamist. Of course, we'd have to cut back in other areas. How about gutting welfare?

Yes. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!
Anyone, such as Bill Clinton, Warren Buffet, and YOU, can send extra money to the IRS and it will be applied to the debt.
If so, you will be the FIRST DEMOCRAT to do so. Democrats TALK, but they don't WALK.
How about being the First Honest Democrat and actually "walk the walk".
Send in extra Tax Money.
(Bet you don't pay ANY taxes, eh, honey.)
