During the Vietnam War, the theory went that if you lived here, you owed the country something back. So, we went to fight in Vietnam. But all the while people who lived here were avoiding paying their taxes, and people like Vice President Cheney, said they had better things to do. With what we now know, how can we paint anyone who avoided the draft, as a coward and/ or a traitor?

Let's quit pus$y footing around here . If great progress occurs in Iraq , then that spells big trouble for the Democratic Party . I watch Liberal news , I see liberal analysts and politicians admit it all the time . But people on here act as if this is some kind of 'talking point' generated by Fox or Rush !! Bull .

Facts are facts . The 'surge' is going well and hopefully will get even better . And if it does , the Dems will suffer greatly in the 2008 elections .

Agree ?
Or do you think that success in Iraq will help the Democratic Party ? (be prepared to really back-up that notion )

I don't believe for a second that liberals are any less patriotic than conservatives. I thought the Boston Tea Party, which was a protest against the then ruling government, was considered a patriotic act.

I also don't believe there's a democrat in the House or the Senate that wants the US to lose in Iraq, for political or any other reason.

I could have posted this question in pets but I feel that this is more than just a question of liking cats or any pet for that matter.
Tell me what you think.
My two kids and I would like to adopt a kitten.
My husband is "putting his foot down" and is adamant that's just not going to happen.
The kids and I attempted to convince him last night but his attitude about it is that it is non-negotiable because he doesn't like cats.
Shouldn't Democracy be present in our homes? I feel that my husband is being a dictator; after all there was no reasonable effort on his part to discuss the pros and cons of getting a cat.
There are four of us in this family, 3 of which are attempting to get their way through Democratic means!

What would you do, and do you agree that Democracy should matter in our home?

Thanks :0)

Because of the cost in global warming of shipping tangerines she says she will give up eating them, so those of us who live in areas where we grow no tropical fruits should just live with bland diets and risk the health effects. I guess it is "Let them just eat cake" frrom the Million dollar household of the Edwards who made their money chasing ambulances. I guess that will ensure we need better health care because we will have worse diets.

I say the former. I think it is cruel to force a child to attend a failing school solely to continue the fantasy that the needs of an individual are best served by a collective.

My brother is currently in jail on several charges and he declares his innonence. He has been locked up since March, had three prelimary's, and a line up. He was not identified inthe line up and the person involved even said it wasn't him.

He is having a problem getting his BILL OF DISCOVERY and is on his way to yet another (his fifth in fact) arraignment. They keep postponing it because they do not have this information.

Please explain what a bill of discovery is, and also please explain if this is against the law what the Philadelphia court system is doing.

As far as I know the BOD is evidence against him, and that is something that he OR his Public Defender should have.

Why hasn't he gotten it? Can they give you five arraignments?

Is it her or do they just hate her because she's Bill's wife?
I mean, she's not uber liberal ( I can think of a few that are more liberal than she is), I actually think she's pretty moderate.
I mean, Obama seems more left leaning than she is yet he doesn't get as much vile as she gets from republicans ( although he gets his share as well..)
Would someone explain it to me?
I'm team Obama but if he weren't running, I'd be Team Hillary all the way...

We are hopefully near the end of a civil suit-IF we are awarded,(being that being right doesn't let you win) I am wondering how the tax laws work-does it depend on the type of award-ie;damages,emotion stress etc. and how is the money dispursed? Does it go to the law firm where they take their cut and then to us? Do we pay taxes on all and then have to pay the lawyers? Can we write off their amount or does it stay separate and they are taxed? Its so hard to find this on the net-I've tried to be reasonable and search but its like looking for chicken and stars in the Campbell soups! Thank you very much in advance!
PS-if anyone had any referring websites too-wonderful! Its been a stressful and long year and a little knowledge could help alot-Our lawyer is a poker face type and acts afronted if we bager him too much.

It appears that Mexico has decided to send all of their criminals, deadbeats, and undesirable citizens to the United States. And our government agreed to accept these people so that they can become cheap labor to do "the jobs that Americans don't want to do." (I love that phrase!)
Maybe this "agreement" is not so secret. It actually began with President Clinton's North American Free Trade Agreement, (NAFTA). (That was just one of his many ineternational blunders.) And now it is being accelerated by President Bush. If things keep going the way they are America will have no sovereignty left. What do you think? Is the Mexican government and the U.S. government in a shady agreement here, or is this just a bunch of people who happen to be over running the Southern border at the same period of time? Why aren't the two governments doing more to stop this than just pushing paper around in Washington? Give me your opinion and why you feel the way you do.

House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) said Monday that a strongly positive report on progress on Iraq by Army Gen. David Petraeus likely would split Democrats in the House and impede his party's efforts to press for a timetable to end the war.

"I think there would be enough support in that group to want to stay the course and if the Republicans were to stay united as they have been, then it would be a problem for us,"

Some guy named Luke once said that the wicked will convict themselves…

Kerry, get an education or you will wind up in Iraq…

Some conservatives, emotionally spurred on by stories of herosim on the battle field, have suggested that THIS generation is fast becoming the 'greatest generation'.
That could be the case but, to me, the last 'greatest generation' was defined not only by it's soldiers but by the sacrifices of it's citizens in time of war.
Without tooting the "we've-scarificed-our-freedoms" horn, can any of you give me examples of sacrifices that the population has voluntarily made in the war effort?

They promised to do the "people's business" yet all we get are petty investigations which waste the taxpayer's money. We didn't elect them for this purpose. The Republican-led Congress acheived much more!

And with no British troops in Southern Iraq the Iraq-Iran border will be even less secure than it is right now. Which means terrorists & their supplies will flow into Iraq w/o much problem which will make it even more impossible for the US to win the war in Iraq.

So what is the point of having US trooops in a war that they can't ever win?
