Britain isn't a socialist state, all the utilities (gas water electric, and steel, nuclear power, rail, coal - even air traffic control) have been sold off too private companies in the past - yet it has a socialist healthcare system that treats hundreds of thousands of people a year.

So if Britain isn't a communist country (or even a socialist one) - it fought communism damn hard.. why is Hillary clinton being labelled as a communist, marxist or socialist, just for wanting a Universal Healthcare system?

How much Socialism (america has lots and lots btw too) can you have before conservatives label you a commie - or is it just healthcare?

A new Newsweek poll out this weekend exposed "gaps" in America's knowledge of history and current events.

Perhaps most alarmingly, 41% of Americans answered 'Yes' to the question "Do you think Saddam Hussein’s regime in Iraq was directly involved in planning, financing, or carrying out the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001?"

That total is actually up 5 points since September 2004.

Further, a majority of people couldn't identify Saudia Arabia as the country of origin of most of the 9/11 hijackers, even given the question in multiple choice format. 20% answered Iraq, while 14% believed the hijackers came from Iran.

as an Englishman who is in the USA on business, i feel i must ask this question. Most Americans would struggle to choose a matching pair of socks in the morning. As far as i can see the USA is still a third world country, even though they are doing lots to lose thet stigma. The American people have clearly made the wrong choices, opting for a skyscrapers rather than focusing on the shanty villages that dominate the landscape.
I say shame on you Americans

do they attempt to find out what the peoples views are,,
and if they concure,do they shape there policey's to suit
or because there are only two/three party's that have any chance of winning they make it up as they go along.
I as im sure you have never been asked what we would like
the manifesto to contain, maybe we should all join the labour/ conservative party's and vote this lot off unless they represent
the peoples views, I would be very suppriesed if the people whould not ask for at least a vote on staying in europe

My ex husband was in jail in another state for failure to get a job and pay child support. He began writing me while in jail, telling me how sorry he was for the awful way he treated me, begging for forgivness, and declaring his undying love for me & promising to come home as soon as he was released from jail to finally right his wrongs & provide for his family. So I foolheartedly sent $2000 & not suprisingly all communication stopped. I heard his staying with another woman and plans to attend a court hearing this Tuesday regarding his case. Can I request a refund of the cash bond I paid? I feel if he's not going to support his family he can sit in jail!

I would like to know what the consequences are for being caught with a small amount of drugs, in the state of California.

I know it will most likely vary by drug, so i mainly want to know what will happen if you are caught with Marijuana or Meth.

What i mainly know is, there is generally no jail time if you don't resist arrest. The court will generally choose alternatives like; drug school, fines, or community service.
But i'm not sure if that's all true.

A privilege? It's a throwback from Feudal times, an anachronism.

In Uk 12 people are literally plucked off streets and sit in judgement of a person on trial. (exceptions.. SF etc).

They are supposed to be your piers; they are more often nothing like that. Take a successful businessman in the dock in his fine suit and the Jurors, all maybe from poor backgrounds who hate him on sight. Or the black accused with 12 white NF jurors…

Very few people understand Law and whilst it is for them to determine facts and not Law (strictly speaking) few can distinguish between the two.

Unless a person has similar life experiences as you he is not a pier. The US have a good (but often abused) selection process for jurors.

Better I say to have 3 judges, law professors etc who are objective, impartial and know the law.

Trial by jury is not a right it is in my view an ancient ritual which should have been done away with at the same time as ducking stools.

And the judge said she looked 16, referred to her continually as a "young woman" and said she dressed provocatively. She was wearing a bra and a thong. Which the rapist would never have known unless he'd taken her clothes off.
He was sentenced to 4 months. The judge's name was Julian Hall. What was he thinking of?

There is in the west a generally held view that the best form of government is Democratic, i.e. one person one vote. Frankly I agree with Napoleon who said 'Democracy is the handmaiden of tyranny'. Said it to me in the pub he did.

The problem is, most people who vote have not got a clue what they are voting for or against. Take the Euro, in the UK people do not vote based on the Economic or social issues pertaining to the currency, they vote according to their favourite Party and what they say.

There are people in the Uk and in the USA who cannot spell 'vote' yet they get to have an influence in how my taxes are spent! Why.

Poor people make me sick... They get to vote on how my taxes are spent and yet they pay no taxes.

It would be much better if people who actually contribute to the economy get to vote.

What do you think?

I mean, all this 'helping the family' and making families the main priority, and making marrage more important in todays society, and yet everything the chancellor has done has stopped that. It is now more beneficial to be a single parent, than to get married. Councils encourage people to give up their job so they can be given a council house, and the country is now paying more tax, and getting no better services.

So, what has he done, exactly, that has been good for this country?

who is living in Airdrie. Why don't these animals have their addresses made public. Why are they protected. This makes me sick !!! This idiot said he will offend again, " and this time he won't get caught", and still he has not been locked up. If anyone knows where he is living they should be made to inform the general public as soon as possible before someone else becomes a victim. He needs to be locked up and the key thrown away!
