I would like to know what the consequences are for being caught with a small amount of drugs, in the state of California.

I know it will most likely vary by drug, so i mainly want to know what will happen if you are caught with Marijuana or Meth.

What i mainly know is, there is generally no jail time if you don't resist arrest. The court will generally choose alternatives like; drug school, fines, or community service.
But i'm not sure if that's all true.

First of weed in California is no more then a slap on the wrist. You have to pay a small fine and you can go on your way. No that is if it is under 28 grams, if the pot is over 28 grams then it is a felony and you may get some jail time and some probation. Now any amount of meth is also a felony, and they are hard on meth these days, so i would much rather get caught with an oz of some kind, then with just a little meth for sure. Also if you have it pakaged for sale they can charge you with dealing charges as well, so be careful.

Penalties range from fine to imprisonment depending upon the quantity of drugs found in the possession of a person.

If it is meth, you should be forced to sit in a room full of people who have been tweakd for 20 years. The result should be that you will become disgusted and horrified by its long time use.
