Shocking poll. Please answer: do YOU believe that Saddam was involved in 9/11?

A new Newsweek poll out this weekend exposed "gaps" in America's knowledge of history and current events.

Perhaps most alarmingly, 41% of Americans answered 'Yes' to the question "Do you think Saddam Hussein’s regime in Iraq was directly involved in planning, financing, or carrying out the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001?"

That total is actually up 5 points since September 2004.

Further, a majority of people couldn't identify Saudia Arabia as the country of origin of most of the 9/11 hijackers, even given the question in multiple choice format. 20% answered Iraq, while 14% believed the hijackers came from Iran.

AIM - it is the ill informed, apathetic American population that is allowing the destruction of our democracy and the constitution and the country that I love. I guess it doesn't matter to you.

i think Americans need to look a bit closer to home to find the real perpetrators of 9/11. Also the FBI paid an Iraqi to commit the first trade center bombing.

That poll has to be incorrect as almost 70% of Americans are against the war. If Americans believe Saddam was responsible for 9/11 the Newsweek poll would be much higher than 41%.

Just goes to show the value of media in misleading our lives. Most Americans get their "facts" from the media and the media purposly misleads.
Another bad thing is how our children see our world through the media. Ask them about current events and the answers are very sad. Things like the war in Iraq, they do not know where Iraq is so they think the war is nearby and wonder when will arrive in their nieghborhood. This is an example of the serious negative media skew on reality. Good news is not news.

But of course most Americans don't know who won the Civil War...so it's no surprise that the government can so easily convince folks that Saddam did 9/11.

That just shows how stupid and apathetic many people really are. They just figure since we are at "war" with terrorism and Bush started a war with Iraq then they must be one and the same. People remember things the way they are lead to believe them and they have been force-fed the Bush version of history so thats the way they remember.
Silly me, I seem to remember Osam Bin Ladin had something to do with the 9/11 attacks, but since we don't seem to care about catching him, I guess I'm wrong.

This shows the 'persuading and dumbing' power entities like Fox News and talkshow hosts like Limbaugh, Hannity, etc have over a large section of the American public.
Where else do they get their 'information'?

Think for yourselves. Research your sources. Question the reasoning behind what you read or are told.

All but one of the 9/11 terrorists were from our "friend" Saudi Arabia. Saddam had nothing to do with the attack. Our President wanted to get even with Saddam for embarrassing his daddy in 1991.
