Why isn't China putting necessary pressure on North Korea to obey the worlds nuclear protocol?

China has a number of things that they are concerned about.

They like the status quo and are trying to keep it going as long as they can.

They are trying to avoid two things:

1) A flood of refugees from a North Korean economic collapse
2) South Korea taking over the north - leaving China with a working democracy on their border.

I'm an ex pat from the USA and living in China.

North Korea is a source of embarrassment for China. China would like nothing better then to have a stable government in the North. They could care less if North Korea goes democratic.

I mean, come-on, think about it, how would you feel if Mexico, or even Canada was as nuts as No Korea's leader and they were seeking ways to build nukes?

What China is doing is working in the background with quiet diplomacy while Bush rattles his saber and the North rattles it back. Who is smarter, America or China? If you say America, then you're ignoring that everyone knows America can whoop anyones ***. In as much as China can make a lot of military trouble in the world, but they don't.

China also believes in a countries right of self determination.

THey are playing a game with the US. THey actually are far more concern than the Americans on North Korea having Nukes than the US. If North Korea nuke someone, China will get the fallout.

The reason why they are being careful , is because right now both korea likes CHina far more than the US. THey want to maintain that position. Plus CHina does not want North Korea to topple because if that happens, China ends up with more refugees from Korea.

Because North Korea is beginning to respond to the rest of the world because the US is no longer dictating to them, its two way talks.
If someone dictated what I was to do then I would tell them in no uncertain terms to shove it where the sun doesnt shine. Ask me nicely and I will bend over backwards to help you. Russia and China both realised this and didnt rush in threatening violence and sanctions if North Korea didnt do exactly what it was told.

Once you understand human nature come back and ask a sensible question. No offence.

China is not like the U.S.; they do things absent notifying the press; China is actively on North Kowrea's case; have you noticed North Korea is behaving itself?

China almost put a large poop in their punchbowl for playing games with the U.S.

China is up and coming into the Capalist way of life as they are one of our best customers in many markets.

Actually, they are. They do it behind the scenes so that they can show support and not antagonize their unstable ally. Nuclear NK is just as much a threat to China as it is to the rest of the world. It draws way too much attention to that region for China's taste.

Because they could care less about the so called "world's nuclear protocol." The fantasy world of the UN carries precious little weight in the "real" physical world. Koffi & his boys can't protect themselves let alone enforce anything with out the US military. No US military, no Koffi/UN plain & simple. The memories of blue helmeted UN "so called" troops being disarmed by the Serbs a few years ago was absolutly hilarious! I would'nt put any stock into the cute titles the UN promotes in it's paper driven agenda.

Perhaps it is friendly with n. Korea in the same way the USA is friendly with Israel who also don't obey the protocols
