The Media Can Legally Lie
******************************

In February 2003, a Florida Court of Appeals unanimously agreed with an assertion by FOX News that there is no rule against distorting or falsifying the news in the United States.

So, the media is giving Virginia Tech a hard time because they didn't cancel classes after the first shooting. Let me ask this - the shooter was a student who lived in the dorm. Isn't it pretty obvious that he would have simply started shooting in one of the dorms had classes been cnacelled? I'm confused about what good cancelling classes would have done.
Maybe earlier notification of the first shooting would have been nice - but how do you really plan for some mentally ill person trying to kill people?
This is a tragedy, but it seems like the media is trying to maximize shock value - yet again. What purpose does this serve? Are we really any better off as a country by allowing the press to exploit such a tragedy?

Shouldn't they be stopped now rather than left to eventually wipe out (most of) humanity? And why do people actually believe states should keep nuclear weapons? For defence? or is it really about offence? Discuss....

I work at a Goodwill store in Ohio.. Until recently we were only allowed to buy stuff from the store we work in only when we were not at work or before or after our work day.
Now a new rule has been put in force. Now if we want to buy from a Goodwill Store, the purchase must be made at a store that we do not work in .
But if I used gas to travel to another store, it would cost me more. I may as well shop at my local Wallmart, Meijers or Sears.
Please support Goodwill employees and boycott your local goodwill store.
Would anyone that agrees with me and agrees that this is a stupid idea, please comment on my remarks

Of far more importance than the expressed "hurt feelings" of the team members, and the pomposity of the two Reverends (who have arrogantly thrown the first stone many times previous to this), is the punishment of an American Citizen who has a right to free speech fair, and within the boundries of the Constitution? Imus has been an equal opportunity insulter and debaser for years...sometimes he is funny, sometimes he is not. We all have the right and the opportunity to disagree with his remarks. However, do we have the right to close him down?...to fire him?...to punish him?...to treat him like a criminal when no law has been broken?...to make him the scapegoat for something he said that we personally dislike?
The distruction of our Bill of Rights would be a less messy way of defeating our country for those who would destroy it. Is that what has truly happened? Perhaps Sharpton, Jackson and Roker, along with the sponsors and the networks involved should be charged with treason.

I live in a small town, in a small apartment complex, across the street from a high school. It’s for low income, senior citizens & the disable. You have to sign a form that you will not use any illegal drugs on the property. (Or sell them as well) Anyway, there are 5 apartments where single mothers, (With 1 to 5 kids), no jobs, sit around all day & watch TV and get high (Smoking Weed). You can almost get high from the smoke coming out of these 5 units at times. The real problem is that if their kids are with them, then they are getting yelled at for anything and everything while watching mom get high. Or, if mom is really wasted, then they are off running around the streets doing whatever. My question is: What can be done? I’m in California where most don’t see weed as a big deal. However, it costs money to buy it and they are using our tax dollars to purchase it. I’ve have even seen them sell it to the kids across the street at the high school. Not only are they spending our money to get high, but the money should be going to feed, cloth and take care of their kids. With mom high, the kids are not getting the emotional support they need as well. So what can be done? I’ve talked with the sheriff and it’s like no big deal because we’re going after the big drug dealers. Any help would be great…

Of all the morons on this site that are taking a tragic loss of life and turning it into fuel for bashing. I cannot believe there are this many idiots here. I expected to see a lot of gun control questions and answers, maybe even some security questions. I NEVER expected to see all these libs vs. cons questions. I guess I am deluded to think people on here are better than that. It sickens me. Did you ever think, before posting insensitive questions, that maybe there are family or friends of those dead that visit this site?
Are there any posters this morning on here that are not playing the blame game and truly feel the loss of 33 lives is not fuel for the political fires?

After the tragic shootings yesturday gun lobbyists are saying that gun control should be RELAXED. This seems insane to me. They claim that if the students had been allowed to carry guns then they would have been able to defend themselves, I think it would have lead to further panic and with panic probably more deaths as people would have shot in terror, it would probably have lead to a mass shoot out in my opinion.

Gosh. It's no wonder criminals LOVE gun control laws.

What's better than an unarmed victim? Sweeeeeeeet.

Some of the 9-11 hijackers where here on student visas and now this tragedy at Virginia Tech. When will the people of this country demand our politicians due something for the CITIZENS of this country instead of always looking for the almight buck.

The recent shootings have shown we have become callous to the deaths of our young people in Iraq. I know their are those who say these kids chose to put their lives in harms way-but they are as important.

I've read today about the Constitution and the RIGHT to bear arms, but having the right to do something doesn't make it compulsory.
So what fuels the desire? Is it image, fear, aggression or what?

The polls told Pelosi and Hillary that they would lose votes if they took up the issue. Votes are the most important thing to Pelosi and Hillary and Dems.
