The Media Can Legally Lie
******************************
In February 2003, a Florida Court of Appeals unanimously agreed with an assertion by FOX News that there is no rule against distorting or falsifying the news in the United States.

***I am flabbergasted by the responses along the lines of "W-w-w-well.....they all lie! They all distort! B...b....but they all this, that and the other."
Uh - FOX WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO WENT TO COURT AND STATED THEY HAD NO - REPEAT- NO LEGAL OBLIGATION TO TELL THE TRUTH IN THE NEWSCASTS.
I cannot believe -- let me repeat that -- I cannot BELIEVE that you do not understand the gravity of this court case.
Oh, and for all the Dan Rather fans?
THE INFORMATION IN THAT STORY WAS TRUE. So one single document was not "verified" big effin deal. THE STORY WAS ACCURATE.
Old news.

...because the fox news devotees are a) brainwashed b) not intelligent enough to comprehend the delivery of actual journalistic research c) they feed on hate speech and the screaming nonsense of people like O'Reily
I don't watch anyof the network television news programs anymore as they are all supported by and with corporate interests. BBC is great to listen to on American affairs as they have no party affiliation, PBS IS LISTENER SUPPORTED, NPR is the same and provides one of the most balanced forms of reporting (but the right hates NPR because first they don't scream and it's listeners are part of the" intellectual elite"), and the Associated Press gives almost painfully unbiased accounts of the news and events.
Let them have their Fox News and observe how as time goes by how half the population of misinformed robots have no clue about what is going on in their own country it is already happening.

nicely, the same case would desire to be made approximately CNN having the outstanding. the priority isn't the "fact" because of the fact any determination that would desire to require all pronounces via a information source to be definitely factually precise might dissuade any source from offering coverage of activities. there is obviously and inherently a bias in human interplay and fact is ambiguous in a loose society. i do no longer have faith we'd choose to stay in a custom that discovered in any different case.

In this case the media can lie AND withold vital information to the American people. This whole situation with the BGH story sickened me.

How sad that you and the author of that incoherent screed don't have the ability to understand or distinguish between the local Fox affiliate news which is entirely different and separate from the Fox News Channel.
And the news is distorted all the time - that's why Fox News Channel has such high viewership - because people were sick of the distortions of ABCBSNBCNN.
Fake documents, "exploding" pick-up trucks, fawning treatment of Democrats, distinct and palpable anti-Republican slant, etc drove people away.
I'm not sure why you ever thought there was a law that all news had to be the undistorted truth - most of the left-leaning media would have been shut down long ago.

I have lived in the Tampa Bay area almost all my life. I am a native Floridian. I have never watched FOX news for obvious reasons.
But remember, they don't call us the freak show state for nothing. If you look through the local area news in any city or county, you will find all kinds of stories like this one. I am no longer surprised by what we are capable of.

They are the Goebels of the new riech. If you love the current administration with its lies and propaganda than you love Fox News. There is an old Russian saying, "There is no truth in the news and no news in the truth."

I must admit, with some level of guilt in my heart, that I watch Fox on occasion.
BUT, I only do so becasue it is like 24hrs of the Colbert Report, all fake, all funny, all the time........ especially thier morning show!!!! holy crap are they stupid in the morning!!!!
I especially love thier coverage of Barack Obama, I'm just glad they couldn't make the hussien osama thing stick.... I guess even conservative voters aren't that shallow and stupid....

there are two things you should not have been surprised about.
1) FAUX news and their never ending allergy to telling the truth in news. This is why they are Faux News.
2) The fact that a FL court agreed with them. FL ( also known as the Banana Republic of the US) has been known for its boneheaded decisions so the mere fact that they came up with this tripe surprises me not one whit

With all do respect, you can't be serious. How can I keep watching FOX? A much better question would be how can you keep watching CNN, or MSNBC, or ABC, or CBS, or NBC, or , well you get the idea. I keep watching FOX because I like my news without a healthy dose of liberal bias and Bush hating paranoia. Apparently I'm not alone, since it is, by far, the most watched cable news channel. There have been plenty of times that FOX has pissed me off, but overall, they are the most FAIR AND BALANCED news on TV. They simply REPORT, AND LET ME DECIDE. The fact is, you liberals can't stand the fact that there is another outlet for people to get information that you don't control. For the first fifty years of television, we were force fed liberal crap from the big three networks. Those days are over. My advice to you is, learn to live with it. It's here to stay.

Isn't Fox owned by Rupert Murdoch? Murdoch is the firepower behind the Bush administration. M. Powell made sure, he legally could buy majority stakes in any TV, Radio and News paper organization he wanted and broadcast his censored baloney.
If I want News, I go to European sources. They are more based on facts instead fiction.
