We are constantly told - it's not ALL Muslims, there are 1.2 Billion muslims so even if 100,000 of them are terrorists, it's still a tiny fraction of them.

I'm not sure it's 1.2 Billion - about 30% live in countries where apostasy is punished by death, so it's a bit like saying there are 1.2 Billion Chinese communists.....

But even so, yes, almost all Muslims are not of this violent strain.

But what obligation do they have to quell that violent strain?

The violent ones aren't just "extreme" - they're taking the Koran and Hadiths and Muhammad's example LITERALLY. Muhammad killed thousands of people and commanded his followers to do the same.

The Bible also has violent and anti-woman passages but Judaism and most branches of Christianity have acknowledged this and stated "the literal version isn't appropriate today."

Moderate Muslim leaders have never done this - occasionally they speak out about the most violent attacks but often they're mum. Should they do more?

To my American colleagues:
Here in Ontario Canada our traffic tickets have the officers name, defendant name, address, dl # etc., the section wording and number and at the bottom the set fine for out of court settlement.
The back of the ticket gives three options: guilty, not guilty, guilty with an explanation.

Many people in this category ask what their fines will be for a certain speeding charge.
Why don't they know this?
Isn't it indicated on the ticket?
Here in Ontario there is an out of court settlement (send in payment) for all speeding charges up to 49km/hr over the limit. Speeding above that gets a summons with a date on it to attend court (where a Justice of the peace determines monetary fine and suspension time).

Just curious, thanks in advance.

My partner's father is an overzealous church deacon. His father lost a considerable amount of money at stocks, built an enormous, fund-draining home, and claims he now needs the land sale money to keep the house but he consistantly throws away $400+ a week to a small country church in the form of a "donation". The son is furious at his father for secretively selling off portions of the family land to pay for trying to live too big and appear to be the "big man" in the county at church. The land has been in their family for several generations, and has always been kept intact, until recently. It is also suspected the father is trying to sell off land to make a very large donation for a proposed annex for the church. The son cares deeply for the land, and sees the land as a part of the family legacy, not as a commodity to dice and sell. Can the son do anything legally to prevent the further squandering of the inheritence?

I was caught reading his book today at work and i struck up a conversation with a few co-workers over the likes of the presidential candidate. One mentioned that he was (like me) a smoker, and being an avid smoker I pose what to me if a very important question. What kind of butts does he smoke? Camel Lights will say one thing, Marlb Reds may add to his appeal in the midlands, while Capri 120s would look like a rape offense on his criminal record. Does anyone have Any idea?

is the ONLY organization ALLOWED to brutalize recruits if it is kept "hush hush". some of u "marines", quote, unquote even go as far as to say that brutalizing recruits is either a thing of the past or an urban legend. it makes me laugh because i was there and i witnessed alot of things recruits suffered unnescessarily. i think this is one reason why Marines have the reputatioon as the "dumbest" branch of the service. it is very posible to train an elite fighting force using the "hands off" approach. nobody is a punching bag. i had the "privilege" of being a witness of a drill instructor in another platoon brutalizing a recruit, i testified me and a couple of others, and the drill instructor was busted down to private and went to the brig. during the rest of my training i was called a "disgrace" to the marine corps by my drill instructors for testifying. my question is, is this fair? they made me suffer for it during the rest of boot camp

Do you think that, just maybe, this guy had Methodist sermons beat into his head for years that sounded something like, "If you're not with us, you're against us?"

There is a bill they're trying to pass that will swap your RE taxes for a higher 8.5% sales tax. If you're interested in having the bill passed, let your voice be heard on this site:

many dems want a government ran program.. many cons are ok with the government giving people money and letting them pick their own private program... well what if people picked their private program and those programs sent the bill to the government... then you don't have to worry about people spending the money on something else like so many dems fear they may.. and it's still private health care like the republicans want..... sound like a decent bipartisan plan to you?

Do you think the Republicans will run a woman, a Hispanic (Bill Richardson of New Mexico) or a black man in your lifetime? Do you wonder why not? Of Congress members that have links to the KKK, how many do you think are Republican and how many Democrat?
Sure, Colin Powell was around for awhile, but he got out after they framed and abused him to promote the war. Maybe they should rename Condy Rice "Token."
I'm a white male, and I still know a bunch of prejudiced, mysoginistic bigots when I see them.

* They could pick up garbage off freeways
* They could clean offices
* They could wash sidewalks and keep cities clean
* They could pull weeds public land

There are MANY jobs they could do to get their check.

When that was metnioned to them in Milwaukee a few years ago - you know what they said...It's too much like "SLAVERY". HOW can it be slavery when you are getting paid to do a JOB - whoever is paying you?

I'm just doing a survey for my own personal reference, all I ask is that rhetoric be kept to a minimum.

1. Do you identify yourself with any particular party? If yes, who and why? If no, how do you describe your views?

2. Would you take the the time to listen to a candidate who you have not agreed with in the past?

3. Have you ever changed your mind based on speaking with someone who does not agree with you?

4. Do you feel it is wise or unwise to vote a straight party ticket? Why or why not?

Thanks for bearing with me, I look forward to the responses, to see if I am correct in my estimation.

With conservatives it is terrorism. With liberals it is global warming. Both are being used to scare the populace and promote an agenda. Meanwhile, both sides accuse the other of being bad while using the same tactics against each other. So again, are the politics of fear being overused in our society?
