Why don't politicians pay Troops who are actually on the ground in the theatre of war an hourly rate of pay instead of a salary - which if thought about dispassionately and logically no sane person in civilian life would ever think of signing on the dotted line for.
Troops working over a Friday to 00.01hr on a Monday - a usual occurrence and carried out without complaint - receive their normal monthly salary.
Civilian working same hours would automatically receive :
Friday - normal rate
Saturday - Time & a half
Sunday - BINGO !! DOUBLE rate
Even those working on minimum wage stand a chance of earning more money working weekend shifts... but NOT troops who daily put thier lives on the line for just a very basic salary out of which they still pay for food and accomodation - even if accom might be a tent, and food some out of a ration pack..no wonder squaddies demobbing to go into constructruction!
IF this concession offered for troops in Theatre, that may help recruitment problem

I think local communities are feeling the pinch and trying to make up for budget short falls and pulling extra people over. Is this happening in your community too?

i) You increase car tax and petrol tax so that petrol has reached £4.00 PLUS for a gallon.
ii) You continue to tax motorists to the hilt.
iii) Nanny PM then starts spouting off about people should take the public bus, train, ride a bicycle or walk to work and take the kids to school using public transport or walking.

Have the political spin doctors not cottoned on yet that people keep driving their cars, that they have paid mega bucks for, and work hard to keep it on the road, and even harder to put petrol and oil into it in order to have SOME enjoyment out of thier vehicle, BECAUSE of these high taxes they are being charged?

Tax payers WANT thier moneys' worth in thier taxes. Isn't that the excuse spinners give for not spending money on much NEEDED and NECCESSARY basic equipment for all emergency services, not to mention the Military?
You keep taxing motorists, we'll keep our cars on the road.
Simple as.

REDUCE taxes we could be more ammenable to using Public transport

Which cops are DD Dumb ? The Volunteer (dress up like a cop ,but without a gun) cops that responded to shots fired call, knowing they had NO WEAPONS to defend themselves. Both were shot dead !
Or the morons that handcuffed a 7 year old kid for sitting on a non-functioning mini-bike.These numb nutts just gave the parents of the 7 year old a nice pay day ,I am sure some ACLU attorney will file suit against the PO-PO.

for the best candidate? When I vote I try very hard to pick the best person. Not his or her party. I have voted for both Democrats and Republicans. By saying you will never vote for one party or the other could you be eliminating the best person?

When the new law came in we were presented on the BBC with "evidence" that the loss of concentration while using a phone is as bad an effect as drinking alcohol.

IF this is true, surely the penalties should be the same - i.e. automatic disqualification for one year.

If it is NOT true, surely they should shut up.

My view? Having had many near misses with people on phones, I actually think it is WORSE than the effects of small amounts of alcohol - they should have their phones seized, be banned from driving for 12 months and have to take a re-test. THEN these selfish people would stop.
