The Police don't have quotas for traffic offences. They can write as many tickets as they want. Don't want a ticket? Then don't speed. Simple, huh? And, to the dude above me, the Police do not devise the laws, they did not draw up the National Crime Recording Standard and if you really knew your facts, you would know that all UK forces are facing a budget shortfall this year which is going to reduce Police resources, especially in the Traffic Department, significantly.

Personally I no longer think Policing in the UK is by consent. The country has become increasingly lawless over the last ten years as the "me first" culture has taken a grip and this current government seems so willing to let people get away without taking any responsibility for their own actions. The majority of people who distrust the Police and cry foul against them are usually up to no good and would benefit the most from less policing.

Correct the police dont have quotas in fact the Home Office banned them 25 years ago.The old saying that 'the public gets the police force they deserve' applies very well to modern British Policing .The public demands more rights for criminals more accountability for the The Police(when I was young it was OUR Police)then every single day the non thinkers queue up to critize the police on sites like this and they wonder why the police cant help them.Yes that is policing by consent we have the police we deserve!

No - not any more. They have made up so many new offences and set targets / quotas for traffic offences it isn't sensible to deal with them any more.

Thankfully my licence is clean again but the dubious fixed penalties I got and the fact my life could be completely wrecked without ever haven driven in a manner to justify this means the Police lost my consent and lost my confidence.
