The Criminal Justice Act (1988) says that you may carry a knife with a blade length of 3.0" or less so long as it is capable of folding.

The CJA 1988 created an offence of having an article with a blade or point in a public place without good reason or lawful excuse. Maximum penalty: up to two years imprisonment.

The CJA 1988 also created a similar offence of having a knife or article with blade on school premises. Maximum penalty: up to four years imprisonment.

There are many petitions on the Number 10 website relating to Knife Crime. If you feel strongly about the current maximum sentances, have a look:

If found with it you could be charged with Possession of an Offensive Weapon. In my experience all you would get is a fine and/or Community Service and a criminal record. If however, you used the knife in another crime, ie: robbery, assault, etc, then you would be looking at a different set of charges most likely Indictable ones which would lead to a Crown Court trial where the penalties are stiffer and the knife could be the aggravating factor that sees you get sent down for a few years.

you know, I carried a knife considering that i replaced into about 15, and oddly adequate have not in any respect stabbed everyone. because I carried it as a device, no longer a weapon. Granted I stay in the country, and nevertheless carry a knife. even at the same time as i replaced into stabbed, in a nightclub, I not in any respect pulled my knife, I basically disarmed him and kicked the ever lovin pi.ss out of him. the priority isn't the knives, that's the idiots who carry them those days, they don't have any respect for no longer some thing. Pathetic little pi.ss ants, that need to be squashed. i'm guessing your link has to do with that 14 year old lady. The perpetrators of this crime should be stomped into the floor, not in any respect to upward thrust back.

depends possession of a sharply bladed or poited article.
Possession of an offensive weapon, and possession of a prohibited article are three of the offences you could commit.

If pleaded guilty then it may be suitable for disposal at magistrates court you can recieve a £5000 fine, or 6 months imprisonment.

If pleaded not guilty you can opt for trial by peers at crown where the maximum sentance can be custodially 2 years for bladed article, or 4 years for offensive weapon.

However the CPS can decide that if the circumstances are serious enough you can be tried at magistrates and sentanced at crown where you can get the higher imprisonment
