I am 51, my (girlfriend) is 49... She is a widow, her husband was a good father and husband, and worked in a steel mill in Gary for 25 yrs before he retired at 43... At 45,he was attacked and killed trying to defend a girl who was being beat up by her boyfriend during a new years-eve party at their house.Less than two years later, she is diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer, but to despite all odds, survives...Five years later, we become romantically involved, and decide to live together. We would love more than anything to be legally married, but face too many penalties for this to be possible... She would lose her husbands pension, which after escalating insurance costs is only about $350 a month... She is currently paying about $250 a month for continued coverage, but with a $1500 deductable... which means she is doing without most coverage, unless it is emergency situations, even though she is paying $250 a month for coverage.... Why is this ????

Thomas Jefferson to the Danbury Baptists;

"Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between man and his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, and not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between church and State. Adhering to this expression of the supreme will of the nation in behalf of the rights of conscience, I shall see with sincere satisfaction the progress of those sentiments which tend to restore to man all his natural rights, convinced he has no natural right in opposition to his social duties"

Television, print and now the internet has given those who control the flow of information the power to shape public opinion. Public Opinion is forcing the hands of our political leaders and as such unduly influencing the agenda of our ELECTED officials. Who elected the people who control these outlets. Certainly we don't want to give the government "control" of the media but how do we implement measures to ensure that the information the media disperses is done so in a manner that accurately reflects the view point of the population rather than, as it appears, the tail wagging the dog.

On most questions there are many thumbs down for answers that contain verifiable facts and many thumbs up for outright delusional lies.

Is there a right-wing thumbs brigade?

Giuliani: "The president was cautious, the president was prudent, the president did what a commander in chief should do. No matter how you try to blame it on the president the actual responsibility for it really would be for the troops that were there. Did they search carefully enough? Didn't they search carefully enough?"

My ex beat me up on several occassions. During the last incident I bit him to get him to release me. He left the apartment. I called his father to come sit at the apartment with me incase he came back. He called the cops a few days later and they put a warant out on me. I turned myself in. He bailed me out. I got a full order of protection from him. He brought the charge back up when he realised I wasn't going back to him.
I was just informed I am going to trial for "attempt to inflict bodily harm." I face 6 months for defending myself. Can I sopenea his father? What can I do? If I go to jail I will lose my children to him. What am I looking at as far as punishment? I am really scared. I have never been in any kind of trouble like this.

And even if he was a Muslim, what would be the big deal?
For real, the guy has NEVER been a Muslim. Look it up. His birth father and stepfather were secular Muslims who weren't religious, and no religion was pushed upon him in childhood. Just cause the guy's middle name is Hussein doesn't make him a Muslim.
