In one of the many courses on leadership. I remember one course was all about power. You see it every day.
Power of authority: The power one has over others by position. This would be the boss.
Power of association: The Secretary who call and says she is asking or talking on the bosses behalf. This could also be the son of the mayor, or the kid of a rich daddy.
Power of knowledge: The tech that thinks that the place will stop with out his presence.
Power of voice: Someone that holds the conversations at the water cooler. Or could be the DJ, someone that can speak to a large group and have an influence.
I am sure you can name someone that can fit in each of these categories.
The fact is, power is what you give up or hold.

Leadership gives power, depending on what type of leadership and how much power. But, leaders like to think they have more power than they really do.

The basic differencebetween a leader and a manager is that manager always says "Go" and leader always says "Lets Go".
Definately we can say that Leadership is power but in case of leadership power is defined as combine efforts of people and not of the individual. The leader is one selected among the group only he is one of them.
