Read the attatched news story or simply read the headlines in yahoo News. Someone once told me in yahoo answers that the military does not recruit people with criminal histories... and ahem... that person is wrong!!! So, why is it ok for this to happen but an openly gay person must be booted. Having a felon in your platoon is certainly a good morale booster... wouldn't you say?

WASHINGTON - The Army and Marine Corps are letting in more recruits with criminal records, including some with felony convictions, reflecting the increased pressure of five years of war and its mounting casualties.

According to data compiled by the Defense Department, the number of Army and Marine recruits needing waivers for felonies and serious misdemeanors, including minor drug offenses, has grown since 2003. The Army granted more than double the number of waivers for felonies and misdemeanors in 2006 than it did in 2003. Some recruits may get more than one waiver.

The military routinely grants

In Mary Pipher's book "Reviving Ophelia" she suggests that, along with classes for women so they can protect themselves, we ought to have classes that teach people that rape and attack and assault, etc are wrong. (In Rhode Island there was a study done - both male and female participants- and they came out that 87% of the kids thought that, at one point or another, rape was an appropriate action. There's still a common feeling that, if it happened, she/he got what they deserved. Sad.) My mom and I were talking, and she suggested that they give it as a required class at the high school. For both boys and girls. So, I've only ever heard of this brought up by Mary Pipher. Why haven't I heard of this idea before? Are there people who don't want this to happen, and that's why it hasn't been talked about? So, in Sociology we talked about the idea that maybe the economy determines a lot of our life. so, are there people who get paid, in one way or another, when someone is attacked?

Cold war was a big protector that safe guarded many weaker nations from powerful nations. The collapse of Soviet Union is the reason for present world disorder. If Russia is once more strengthened, we can expect better peace in the world. “If you want peace, prepare for war!”.

ABT, anti-ballistic missile treaty... that's long range nuclear missiles. Once countries like Iran and N. Korea saw us leave that treaty, they began to immediately think about 'defense' on a nuclear level.

N. Korea immediately stated it's intent to leave the NPT, nuclear non-proliferation treaty which has escalated to where we are now.

Should we consider reversing actions like this in order to prevent another cold war and realize we have spawned other country's desires to have nuclear defensive weapons?

It happened in another state and there are a lot of people here that I feel should know what happened. As far as I know, I am one of the only people who know about this as of now... and people are wondering where this individual is.... I've been told not to talk about it. If I should make it known, how would I do so without anyone knowing it was me who spread the news?
