ok im gonna get a betta (siamese fighting fish) hopefully much like the one shown here.
http://www.bettatalk.com/images/Royal_blue_super_delta_tail_web.gif

I dont know what kind it is but i think it might be a super delta. i have a plastic tank that is 1-1.5 gallons. i need to know:
1) how much $ a good quality betta like the one in the pic would be?
2) how much $ some NICE gravel to fill the bottom of the tank would be?
3) what kind of food to get and how much it would cost 4 one container?
4) can i put plants and deco in the tank? if so, how much can i put without crowding?
5) more general info about the tank and the fish?
i will prolly get the fish at a good place where my dad gets all his fish but i will get assesories and other stuff at petsmart or petco. plz dont tell me that the tank needs a filter cuz my dad had a tank with a filter and the fish got stuck to it and almost killed!!!!! then he took the filter out and had the fish 4 a long time after that!

Ive been wanting a lionfish for a while now but only bigger cities around here have pet stores that carry marine fish. Before I go through all the trouble and gas to actually get one I need to know if theyre actually as hard to take care of as people say. Does anyone actually have one or know someone who does? Are they high maintenance?

I have a 10 gallon filtered tank with 4 platies and 2 mollies. all of the fish swim together except for one of the platies. he hides all the time and only comes out from various hiding places when its time to eat. I noticed he has two bites out of his tail (at least i think they are bites) and the other fish seem aggressive when he comes out to eat. what is wrong? they all got along fine when I first put them in a week ago.
Also, my one white mollie has a white dot on his tail...is something wrong? please help! =) thankyou

My fish died today and I have had her for years. My friend and aunt who is a marine bioligist say that fish live longer and happier lives in ponds. My parents said that we can build a small pond in my backyard as long as it is simple and not extremly expensive. Any tips or advice on pond building or care?

We found a snake-like creature in the surf off the beach of the Gulf of Mexico in Port Aransas, Tx; seahorse type head is straight, not curved and clear with a brown line down the center; body resembles a snake by movement or an eel w/out any fins; tannish, clear color; very thin; looks like a baby; tiny scales but not like a snake! We were shaking the sargassum seaweed catching the tiny sargassum shrimp, fish and crabs and a couple of these fell out!

My friend has a fairly large one...about 6 inches. The eel will only eat live food. Right now he's in a 20 gallon but he wants to upgrade to a 55, possibly with discus...Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Our new guppies were born this weekend while we were away. We removed the adults (because it was easier than catching the fry) for the night. We put the 4 adult guppies in with 3 danios in our unheated 5 gallon tank. The fry are in the heated 10 gallon. We really dont want to buy any more tanks, but are trying to figuire out what is best with the tanks we have. We also turned off the filter in the 10 gallon tank for the fry. Any Suggestions on where to put them, and how to use the filter we have? We would just like to raise the fry and keep a few...giving the rest away...

Crap. Is there any easy way to tell the difference between a male and female tiger barb? I know that the male may develop red coloration to it's nose, which one of them definitely has. The other doesn't. I'm worried that the one with no red on it's face is a female. I don't want any fry in my tank.

Also, I have a tank with 3 red glass barbs and 2 tiger barbs. So far, I haven't noticed any fin nipping. Is it very likely that the two barbs will start to fight and nip? They are pretty teeny now, so I'm hoping it won't happen.

Advice?

my betta is black and blue and when i recently put some tetra in it did the whole flair up and look like its on steroids bit plus it looked as if it had a red streak on each of the little dangly fins on the front, he's calmed down now and the fins are back to black. were those streaks indicative of anything?

My little Betta, Monet, is in a basic sized fish bowl. When I first got him in March it seemed more than big enough for him and there was room for a small pot for him to hide in and a fake plant. Now he has grown, and he seems to be cramped in his bowl. I took out the pot, and am tempted to take out the plant to give him more space.

Should I get him an actual aquarium? I was thinking one of those 2 gallon tanks for goldfish and such. Is that too much for him?

Also, do you guys know of any small fish or critters that would be safe to put in the aquarium with him if I got him a bigger one? I really want a dwarf african frog, but Im not sure how they would get along since those frogs are so tiny.

Ugh... I caught a baby grasshopper, and threw it in my tank... one of my larger black skirts attacked it and ate it up... heh.. i know.... but i wanted to see if they'd eat it... if I am sure there were no pesticides/insecticides, could any harm be done?? I figure they'd get a few hoppers in the wild.... experience?? Concerns??

I have tetras, bala shark fish, swordtail fish, and underwater frogs. two of my painted tetras, and the bala shark fish is twitching, i had another fish that looked like a small shark i didnt remember the kind, it died this morning, i bought the test kit, and the nitrate was at 1.0. which i know is high, i plan on doin a 50% water change, and my water will not go below 80 degrees, i know these are two issues, will they kill my fish and has this caused them to start twitching?

I am building a Koi Pond. The problem is I live where it gets very cold (NY). Some days are around 30F--1F. As you know this can freeze my fish. I can not seem to figure out how deep the pond should be so that it don’t freeze them.
Please don’t just toss numbers at me because the deeper it is the more it cost, try to be technical with this.

Also if you have a supporting web sight that would be great.

Thank you every so much for your help, it really means a lot to me.

I have a very healthy tank and a few months ago, added two Bolivian Rams. One is not as colorful as the other, but has the same basic markings. It has recently been sitting at the botom of the tank and swimming very little.
Any ideas why? It has a small pouch underneath, but I would think not large enough to be pregnant, could I be wrong?

I just bought a red tiger oscar that's an inch and a half. I was wondering how long people recommend that I can keep him in a 10 gallon. I have a 50 gallon that he/she will eventually move into. At what point in time will it cause it harm/stunted growth? It's the only fish in the tank. I briefly asked a vet and they said it perfectly fine to have it in a 10 gallon with water change; right food; good filtration, etc. But forgot to ask at want point should it be moved to a larger tank. Thanks for your help.

I was thinking a bala shark and maybe some barbs. I'm not sure yet. I'm really up for anything and thought a venture with a bala shark would be interesting. But, like I said I'm up for anything. If you would, please put the number of fish and sex of fish that you would put in.

I have a percula clownfish and a firefish in the tank. And I feed them frozen brine shrimp. I'm not sure if I'm scaring the camel shrimp or if he is just like... afraid of eating. I added them in yesterday if that will help.

I've got a 10 gallon tank with a fancy male guppy(other one died today thanks to 4 bumble bee gobies), and 3 white cloud minnows. I took the gobies out, but still have the minnows and guppy together... The guppy sits at the top where it's warmer with the light on and my minnows are swimming aaaaall over the place... What's a safe temperature for the both of them?
