I was thinking a bala shark and maybe some barbs. I'm not sure yet. I'm really up for anything and thought a venture with a bala shark would be interesting. But, like I said I'm up for anything. If you would, please put the number of fish and sex of fish that you would put in.

Actually, if I had the opportunity, I would only fill it half way with water. Then I would create a waterfall and a rocky setting and put turtles or frogs in it. I saw something like that on a home improvement show--it looked great.

However, if you're set on fish, I had really good luck with a leopard grouper and a file fish. As for how many fish and what kind, don't be afraid to ask an aquarium store. I wouldn't go to a chain store, but rather a small business where they actually know what they're doing.

Good luck and have fun!

The barbs would work out well, but the tank wouldn't provide much room for balas - they get over a foot long and are active swimmers (plus they're schooling fish that should be kept in groups).

Some things I like for taller tanks are angelfish (you could keep a pair with a dwarf pleco as a bottom fish), or tall plants with tetras (I like Congo, emperor, diamond, and neons) or rainbowfish. The tetras you could keep in schools of 6+ by species. Rainbows are usually kept as three or more with more males than females - the males produce more color to attract females when they have "competitors".

If you didn't want to try angels (finding a pair is difficult because you can't sex them unless they're about to spawn or you buy them as a breeding pair), I'd go with a planted tank with a trio of one of the rainbowfish species, a school (6 or so of the larger tetras or giant danios, or 12-15 neons), plus 4-6 corydoras catfish or kuhlii loaches for bottom cleaners. You can find info/photos of these in the links below:

I would suggest putting 2 siamese algae eaters they grow u to 6 inches or little more to clean the glass and 4 cory catfish(up to 3inches) to eat the leftovers.

The barbs(3inches each) i would suggest putting 4 they are best in a school.

The bala shark put 2 they get quite big up to 13inches or so or you can replace it with smaller fish like 2 dwarf gourami(3 to 4inches) or 2 three-spotted gourami(5 to 6inches).

Have Fun
