Our new guppies were born this weekend while we were away. We removed the adults (because it was easier than catching the fry) for the night. We put the 4 adult guppies in with 3 danios in our unheated 5 gallon tank. The fry are in the heated 10 gallon. We really dont want to buy any more tanks, but are trying to figuire out what is best with the tanks we have. We also turned off the filter in the 10 gallon tank for the fry. Any Suggestions on where to put them, and how to use the filter we have? We would just like to raise the fry and keep a few...giving the rest away...

Well to be honest, if you don't have a bigger set up, then the 10 is best. BUT with fry being there, if you put the adults in, then those fry, if there is no hiding spots, are liable to become a food source. It's going to be a constant battle but actually to limit that 10 gallon tank from over populating, you're probably better off letting the fry get eaten and those that can find a good spot and surrive then so be it. This way, you wont rapidly max out the population capacity of that 10 and you get to see some second generation fry of the parents.

First of all guppies need a heater to survive, without that they are sure going to die
I would recommend you guys going to the store and getting some real plants for your 10 gallon tank that your fry can hide from the adult guppies
You're going to have to put the adults back in the 10 gallon because in the 5 gallon they are most likely are going to die

even with new fry you can leave your filter on, the fry is going to stay away from it, if you have a knob to regulate the flow, just turn it down to the lowest flow you can get

Personally I don't even take my pregnant fish out of the tank anymore (i have a 30 gallon), I have lots of real plants in there where the fry can hide, and i usually find about once a week a couple of new babies in there I haven't seen before, sometimes even more

I have mollies, guppies, platies and so in there, and some of them always survive

Hope that helps
any questions feel free to email me

Good luck and congrats

Edit*
I just hope you acclimated your guppies before put them into the cold 5 gallon tank, otherwise the chance of survival is slim, they are pretty sensitive to heat change

no you're understocked (a good factor). i accept as true with the only individual above who says upload 3 greater zebras because of the fact they grow to be nippy! additionally with the zebras in there i wouldnt problem to lots appropriate to the guppy fry! if the zebras lay eggs in addition they are going to grow to be nutrition so for the main section i wouldnt problem to lots approximately fry!

Get a tank divider, they are very inexpensive and you can keep the fry in the side of the tank that doesn't have the filter, while keeping the older ones in the side that does have it.
