I've had goldfish before but not for a few years. I bought 2 new goldfish half a week ago and they're in a suitable environment; but one has begun chasing the other and seems to be 'kissing' it. The behaviour isn't aggressive; and I'm assuming it's not breeding behaviour since the goldfish are still only very young and the one doing the chasing is not 'bumping' the other one as breeding behaviour describes it would.
Is this normal playful behaviour or is there another explanation? Thanks.

Is there any tangs out there that can fit into a 46 gallon tank? I know they need to be in a 75 gallon but is it possible for any to be ok in this kind of tank if we get them when they are super small?

Well, it grows a tiny bit of brown algae on one of the tubes and a tiny bit on the glass, but that is it. I hear of all of these problems of it taking over. I have 1 oscar and I never change the water, just add more when the water evaporates. The tank is not clean, lots of leftover food on the bottom. Aren't these the main causes of it? Why then does my tank not grow algae? I even leave the light on from noon to midnight. Is it an enigma or does anyone know why this might be?

I recently picked up a modest tank, and five feeder goldfish to stock it.. then found out about their space requirements, a total shock. I'm planning on buying a 20-gallon tank to complement the 10-gallon one, but in the interim, my question is:

I have a 40-gallon rated air pump, a hob power filter, a few fake plants and hiding rocks, gravel, and do 10% water changes twice a day (once off the top, once off the gravel with a vac tube). I'm careful to feed them twice a day and remove excess after a few minutes.

What are some things I can do to make their stay more comfortable, or speed up the cycling process of the tank? I don't want to put any of them down, and giving them back to PetCo would certainly result in their quick deaths.

I have a tank that's 8 weeks old. Everything was fine until about 2 weeks ago when the fishes started dying. I had 2 males 2 females. THey all died one by one. The first 3, I have no clue what happened. They seem to die after I did a water change even though I added de-chlorinizer. The last one to die had open soars on the side and some white film seem to cover her body. I used some medication and she seemed to be bouncing back however, I did a 20% water change last night and she was dead this morning. I've done water changes before and nothing happened until about 2 weeks ago. In the tank, I also have an algea eater. He seems ok for now. Seperated by a net, I have 15 baby guppies. All of them seem ok. Other than one fish, I don't know what killed them and I don't know what to do with the babies. I was in the process of setting up a new tank to seperate the females from the males. Should I transfer them or leave them in there ?

I rescued a betta from a dark, dirty Wal-Mart shelf yesterday afternoon. He is swimming around and fighting with his reflection in the bowl, just like a happy fish...but he hasnt eaten anything yet. Is he just not hungry? Is he still adjusting to his new life? or should I be worried?

One of the fish in my tank has come down with Ich so I am now in the process of treating my entire tank for Ich. At the recommendations of a fish store, all of the decorations, plastic plants, live plants and carbon filter have been removed. I am using NOX-Ich and have raised the temperature in the tank to 82 degrees. The fish store recommended treating for a period of no less than a week so as to avoid having subsequent break outs. My first question - only one of my fish has any appearance of Ich - what do I do with this fish? I know I'm supposed to assume all fish are infected and treat the whole tank, but do I wait for this platty to get better/die or flush her now? Also, when I put everything back in the tank in a week or two do I need to treat the decorations/plants, and if so with what and how? Besides NOX-Ich (sodium chloride and malachite green) should I treat with anything else besides frequent water changes?

My son has a small 10 gallon tank with only 3 platies in it. The tank has been set up for 4 months. Ammonia and nitrite levels test zero, but nitrates are sky high and algea bloom excessive. I've been doing 50% water change weekly. Is there any way to control the nitrate levels in this small tank?
