I've had goldfish before but not for a few years. I bought 2 new goldfish half a week ago and they're in a suitable environment; but one has begun chasing the other and seems to be 'kissing' it. The behaviour isn't aggressive; and I'm assuming it's not breeding behaviour since the goldfish are still only very young and the one doing the chasing is not 'bumping' the other one as breeding behaviour describes it would.
Is this normal playful behaviour or is there another explanation? Thanks.

As long as your fish aren't actively being aggressive with one another (make sure to keep an eye on their scales - if any are missing, chances are that they may be fighting beyond what is "normal"), then you don't need to worry.

I have two goldfish and they engage in the same behavior. It's just their way of playing and establishing a dominant role within their environment. It's rather amusing to watch them play. They were a bit more aggressive the first time I put them in the tank together, but after a few weeks they were very obviously playing. They are almost always near each other in the tank and even "cuddle" when they're sleeping (they hover next to each other, quite close).

bulling trying for top fish position trying to domineer the other one
its like let the other fish know he's the boss of the tank

I have three fish the middle sized one does this behaviour when I've feed them to both the others he stops them getting the food and looking around in the stones he's a little thug i ignore this behaviour and make sure that the other 2 do get some food.
I just put in an extra pinch of food when he's not looking for the other two

When I introduced my second guppy, the first one did that for a while. I think it's a way to establish dominance, or at least some sort of pecking order. I've noticed it's been happening less and less, now mostly only when they get feed. The ne wone even does it to the first one sometimes;)

They could just be playing. I have two male goldfish, and they chase each other all the time. However, they might each think that the other one is female...

They're probably just testing each other out and getting to know each other as well as establishing a pecking order.
