typical goldfish can survive without food for at least 6 days. coz goldfish forget alot of things anyway, including their hunger. but if you dont feed it in a week most likely they will die. make sure they have loads of plants in the tank to nibble on sometimes, and for fresh clean oxygen if the water.

Feeding your Goldfish
To stay healthy, active and colourful Goldfish need a regular balanced intake of a range of essential nutrients. The best and easiest way of providing these is with a complete, balanced diet. AQUARIAN Goldfish Flakes have been specially formulated to provide all the nutrients goldfish and other coldwater fish require-ensuring excellent growth, long life, less pollution and reduced stress.
How Often? How Much? Ideally you should feed your fish every morning and evening. Sprinkle a few flakes on the water. If they are eaten within a few minutes give a little more food. If the fish stop feeding, or after about 15 minutes, remove any uneaten food with a small net.

They can survive for quite a long time, up to 2 to 3 weeks depending on conditions in the tank.
If they don't get fed for a while, they'll usually try to eat plant matter if you have live plants in the tank or even algae if that's growing in there.

A goldfish can survive up to 2 weeks without being fed because they can survive on algae and micro-organisms already in their tank...not that you should go experimenting mind...lol

My son had a goldfish, and he kept it up in his room, well my husband passed away, and we stayed at my moms for a week, and then slept downstairs in the living room for about a month, I forgot all about the poor thing, until one night I was laying there awake, I got up and and went upstairs figuring the poor thing would be dead, the fish bowl had about 1/2 inch of water left in it, but the goldfish, was swimming on it's side, because there was not enough water. I figured it was a gonner anyway, so I took it downstairs and just through it in my big fish tank, the next morning, he was alive and well. But it had turned from gold to black, maybe someone can explain that to me. And he had eaten the little fish I had in there.

water temperature has something to do with this - in a tank they should be fed daily- in a northern US backyard pond when temperatures start to dip into the 30s in the late fall no more food should be given- their metabolisms slow down enabling them to survive near freezing- feeding resumes in spring-babies arrive soon after!

why would you want to starve your fish???
if its a case of your going away, you can get weekend/week feeding blocks from your local pet store.
