I' d like to get a black light or something similar for our fish tank, something to give it a nicer "glow". Would this be okay? We just got our first fish tank and are trying to learn what is okay and not okay.

MY GOLDFISH I HAVE TOP ORANGE ONES AND A WHITE ONE AND THEY ARE GETTING RED ON THEM KINDA LIKE BLOOD AND THE ONE LOOKS LIKE IT IS TURNING GREEN AND THEY ARE GETTING LIKE WHITE STUFF ON THEIR EYES aND ON THEIR BODIES!!! I have a large fish tank (bought from Wal Mart - about the size of a large Microwave - sorry don't know exact size). I have had it set up for about 2 years. The last 4 months the water has been really cloudy/murky. I have one large goldfish, algae eater, 2 sharks and a few tetras. They are all happy (alive!) and I have had the water tested and there is nothing wrong with it. Any suggestions? I feed them twice a day with regular fish food. Thanks, sorry don't have anymore exact specifics!!

I have tried african cichlids, but the tank was too small and they mostly just killed each other. I have the filter, heater, air pump, and everything i need, it has been running for a few days, temp at 78 F. I'm looking for some active fish that don't get too large, maybe small enough so i can have 4-6 of them. I don't want community fish like mollies or guppies. Any suggestions?

my fish tank is being over run my mini mystery snails! i started with one to keep the tank clean and now i have over 200 gross snails! i dont want to kill my fish witha snail remover i have to replace the gravel and almost everything one a month when i didn't have snails i changed it twice a year!
they are srarting to come out of the tank and on to the floor!

I've heard from various people that a protein skimmer can't be used with a freshwater tank, why is this? My understanding is that a protein skimmer takes out waste and helps keep the water crystal clear. I don't see how that's bad for freshwater fish, unless they need the waste in the water to keep a balance in the tank.

i have heard that bettas can stay in a betta bowl and not be in a tank. is that true?

i have also heard that bettas are not as messy as goldfish.

who is more hardy and less messy- bettas or goldfish?

my neon tetra fish has dissappered i cant find him i checked underall the rocks and nothing i even took apart the filter and he is not ther he is the smallest of them all and none of my fish are none to eat other fish and ther is no remanis of him ling around showing that he got eaten unless one of my other fish swalloed him whole?

I currently have a 38 gallon fresh water fish tank . I plan to purchase a 48 gallon fish tank, it is approx. 46 inches across, and 25 inches deep.. I want something that can handle the weight, which will be approx. 500 lbs. ( one gallone of water = 8 lbs. + rocks and the weight of the aq. itself ). I don't want to pay $250.00 for a stand that they sell at a fish store .. they look flimsy to begin with , and definitely not worth the asking price of $250. What do you use or recommended ? ok my devil fish just had like around 200 baby fish yesterday,im really happy but i have like 40 different kinds of fishes in there and most of them eat meat and advice on caring for this
