MY dog is almost a year old and we have tryed to get her in a training class but we just couldn't find one. We need one that will do one-on-one ttraining because my dog will not pay attention when other dogs are around her. If you know anywhere then please suggest it to me. If you know the price then you can list that, too. It has to be in NC.

So, folks here's the question:

What lead you to the dog you have? How did you determine he/she was the one?

I'm curious to see how each of you ended up with your dog or dogs.

This question is for ALL of us to enjoy. No blocked users, no thumbs down, no name calling. It will also be educational. If you'd like to see a question of yours posted, please email me.

My little girl that I rescued from the shelter has had a hard time. 1st her stitches got infected, then she got kennel cough (which she also passed on to her brother), know I think sh may have ringworm but it doesn't floress with a blacklight (UV light),Maybe it is some kind of alergy? She has one hairless spot right between her eyes and has scratched allot of her fur off on her throat and chin (so it looks). I had sprayed her with flea mist when she 1st came home but was already itching before that. Thought it might have been the shampoo I used so I started using an oatmeal shampoo, No flea collars, been treating as ringworm for 2 weeks but have not really seen improvement. The hair is thinning from her where her jaw meets her throat, not up the sides just on the underside like she laid her head down on something, up to where her chin starts to curve upward.

Could use any advise I could get. especially at home care.

Would anyone dress up a large dog between 55-150 lbs. Whether it be a party dress, a camo vest, a halloween costume, a orange hunting vest, a t-shirt with a cute saying or just a holiday festive design?

My father in law wants a guard dog. He wants it to bark at strangers but not at people he knows. He wants to keep it outside. He doesn't want to buy it a fence but he doesn't want it to run off. Basically he wants an alarm system. I have discussed this with him until I was blue in the face. I told him dogs are PETS, that his expectations are unrealistic and unreasonable, that he does NOT need a dog, etc. But he still wants one. I'm about to scream. I've told my husband that I don't think I will be able to visit them if I have to walk by a poor miserable yard dog everytime I go over there. I'm at a loss. How can I convince him this is the WRONG choice!!!!

My 12 year old lab eats just about anything. She has an apple and carrot a day as well as other veggies like brocolli and tomatoes. She's recently been diagnosed with cancer of the liver due to the medication she's been having for arthritis and hip dysplasia and I've been researching what best diet she should be on.

Can anyone tell me what foods are toxic to dogs? I've always known that chocolate, onions and garlic are but I read somewhere recently that grapes are toxic too which she eats quite regularly. Anyone know whether this is true and what it does to them? Thanks

My 10 month old spaniel/shephard pup keeps breaking the fence to escape so he has to go.

I love him and he gets along great with my other dogs especially a female beagle who loves him but he does so much damage to the fence ($100 everytime he breaks it) and all my other dogs escape with him.

Every other option is all too expensive. Invisible fence costs $1000. Shock collar costs $300. Training costs $500. All costs too much money since I already spend a fortune on their food, health and shelter.

The only local shelter is a HIGH KILL shelter and charges $100 for turn ins. They will kill him within 72 hours if no one adopts him.

I was thinking maybe to drop him off at the place where I orginally found him as 4 month old pup....... since he loves to escape maybe he misses the outside freedom. Btw, we have a 10 acre property so he has more than enough space to run around in but he keeps escaping.

So is that humane way to get rid of him? He's too much to handle for us.

I want to take walks with my child to get in shape. However I have had a fear of large dogs for most of my life. There is a doberman in our neighborhood that barks and jumps up (you see his head above the fence) when I walk by. I need to get over this fear. What is a person supposed to do if an aggressive dog comes up to my child and me? I was thinking of getting a baseball bat or pepper spray.

We have a 2 year-old St. Bernard who can not shake her ear infection. The vets don't seem to do anything but prescribe useless meds. We've cleaned it, treated it, used drops, goop, sprays. It seems like nothing helps. She's had it for 5 months now. No one in the house can sleep because we have thin walls and all night she shakes her head violently which is very loud. I feel bad for her and I feel bad for my babies who keep waking up. Please help!

My 4 mth old puppy is great about going outside when I take her. If I am not watching her she is in the crate. I take her out at least every hour and after meals. Twice she has gone and whimpered at the door and when I took her out she went. But the other night she was just hanging out with my son and I and she peed on the carpet.

How do I train her to let me know she has to go out and not soil the carpet?

I am about to get a Golden/Lab mix puppy. I would like to find a good puppy food that does not contain a lot of grains. Do you have any suggestions?
I really want to provide the puppy with the best food I can get. If you could tell me what you feed yours and why, I would appreciate it. Thank you.
