My 4 mth old puppy is great about going outside when I take her. If I am not watching her she is in the crate. I take her out at least every hour and after meals. Twice she has gone and whimpered at the door and when I took her out she went. But the other night she was just hanging out with my son and I and she peed on the carpet.

How do I train her to let me know she has to go out and not soil the carpet?

Remember she is still an infant. It's like asking a 2 year old to never poop the diaper>

Keep on your toes about taking her out. Put a bell on the door or hung at the door when you take her out show her how to ring the bell. Do it every time and even show her how to use her foot or nose to push the bell. Eventually she will use the bell to ask to be let out> or to drive you crazy.

She is still a baby, give her time, she hasn't 100% figured out what the cues her body is giving her mean. And just like a human toddler if she is having fun she isn't going to want to call a time out for a potty break. It takes time and even the best trained dogs sometimes have accidents. Just be patient with her.

She is still very young, so nothing is going to be 100% just yet. It takes time to housebreak a dog, just as it takes time to potty train a child. You seem to be pretty good about taking her out....keep it up, be consistant and , above all, be patient. A couple of accidents are to be expected...give it some time.

It's expected at your pups age. Just keep doing what your doing and there will be very few accidents in the future. One thing still put her outside even though she peed. Just to reinforce where she has to be when she does it.

First you have to realize they don't get full control until they are 6-8 months old.
teh best thing is when she does whine at the door praise her and take her out immediately she should catch on.

She is still a baby. 100% of anything at this age is not an option.
