My little girl that I rescued from the shelter has had a hard time. 1st her stitches got infected, then she got kennel cough (which she also passed on to her brother), know I think sh may have ringworm but it doesn't floress with a blacklight (UV light),Maybe it is some kind of alergy? She has one hairless spot right between her eyes and has scratched allot of her fur off on her throat and chin (so it looks). I had sprayed her with flea mist when she 1st came home but was already itching before that. Thought it might have been the shampoo I used so I started using an oatmeal shampoo, No flea collars, been treating as ringworm for 2 weeks but have not really seen improvement. The hair is thinning from her where her jaw meets her throat, not up the sides just on the underside like she laid her head down on something, up to where her chin starts to curve upward.

Could use any advise I could get. especially at home care.

Not Mange--No Intense itching or biteing, No Smell, No ozzing wounds which are cheristic off all 3 types of mange. She has no redness, swelling and he does not act like anything is bothering her just that she has an itch and when she scratches she does just like any other dog does an itch. think she could be allergic to Cats or the bean bag she sleeps on? Should I thake these things away? how long should I wait to see improvement?

FYI not all types of ringworm floress.... have you thought of mange? Maybe... or allergies.... skin problems are tough ones to diagnose
P.S. Your pup in your profile pic is adorable!

Stop the "home remedies" and crap! That dog needs to go to the VET! And don't whine and say you "can't afford it." If you cannot afford to properly care for your pet then you have no right to have any! It is her RIGHT by law to receive proper medical care and to deny it is abuse. Get a second job if you have to but get that dog to the vet! It may not just be fleas. It could be allergies. Grow up! This is your responsibility. If you can afford a monthly cell phone bill, a new pair of shoes, or a pizza, then you can afford an office visit. It's simply a question of priorities. And stop wasting time on the computer talking to unqualified strangers who have never even seen your dog! If you have that much spare time on your hands you could be working at a part-time job to EARN the money to pay for her treatment! All the while she sits there and suffers while you make her endure it.

Pits get what is known as "bully bumps" and MOST Pits wrestle with severe allergies. Look under her chin and see if there are any "bumps" if there is she has allergies. Some pits have either mild to severe allergies. Mine has severe. Since she was small I have had to treat her with Benadryl. You will need to have the vet check her FIRST don't just give benadryl to her the amount goes according to age and weight. You will have to becareful of what you spray on her since most sprays including flea sprays and powder can cause a flare up. They also have tendency to have dry skin that will make them itch as well.

It's typical for them to loose hair under their chin, neck, belly, "arm pit" area. The other thing you need to watch is her paws. Spread the webs to see if they are red or irritated, you may even notice bumps in between the webs, this area will get infected quickly, so just keep and eye out for it.

If you have ANY other questions my email is open.

Not all types of mange are itchy so you can't rule out it being this. Demodectic mange isn't itchy. Also, ringworm doesn't always fluresce so you can't necessarily rule that out either. You also can't rule out flea allergy, because you haven't used any decent flea treatments! Store bought flea treatments do not work, especially not bathing.

Go to a vet to find out what this is - you need to go anyway to pick up proper flea treatment.

I have two pit mixes and what you are describing sounds like mange. My pup had 3 little bald spots after we boarded her for 3 days and we took her to the vet and found out she had demodex mange (which they are born with) and the stress from the shelter caused it to come out. You need to take her to the vet so that this can be treated properly before it gets worse, it is very uncomfortable for the dog.

somewhere I read fish oil. So I am trying that. Vet saw nothing. Also cold weather dries out skin. My Nina loves being outside with her buddy a Shitzu who can stay outside in sub zero weather doe hours. I try to limit my Pit's outdoor exposure.
