im not sure exactly whats happening but i just came into the den where my dog hangs out and has his water bowl. im looking at him he has this wierd look with his eyes sort of really wide open like hes surprised or something. and he is making this sort of high pitched sound sort of like he is screaming. and as he moves he looks sort of like an old clock that seems like its winding down. im not sure what to do but he has never done this before. should i call a vet?

Ok I have read Jan Fennells book "the dog listener" and thought I was getting somewhere with my 6mth old pup. But there is one thing I can not get her to stop doing. When ever we go out and leave her at home she punishes me by chewing up books, envelopes, and shoes. I have already lost two library books and four pairs of shoes. i just don't know what to do about it anymore, any suggestions?

My family recently adopted a 4 year old Olde English Yellow Lab. She is super friendly and a great dog but she is always drooling! We keep a bandana tied around her neck to wipe the mess off her face but is there any way to stop the drooly bits from always coming out of her mouth?

I cannot thank you all enough for answering my question about my new puppy Jack's breathing spiracticly. I have wanted a shitzu forever and have researched these dogs for along time. I love him and will do anything I can to make sure he is taken care of! Also...wherever you buy an animal, it still needs a home and it is not his fault that a pet store had him. Thanks so much for all of your responses...Happy Holidays!

I was at a party last night and a friend was saying they want to get a puppy. I suggested they get a crate because the pup will be left while they are at work - they can get home at lunch, and some one else we work with started yelling that I shouldn't have a puppy if I need a crate! It was BARBARIC!
No, docking a puppy's tail without anesthetic is barbaric, but using a crate for three or four hours a day is not.
My puppy is fast asleep in her crate now - the door is wide open and she has another bed, which she uses in the day sometimes but when she really wants to sleep like a baby, she always goes in there through choice!
She was comfortable in there from the first night, she didn't whine and wake us up, only to go out for a wee, then slept through again.
What is with the hysteria? Why has this woman flipped out at me? Why is it any different to shutting the back door of your house and not letting them roam outside?

My Chi is 10lbs and not fat. He is very lean and tall. I dont have papers on him and bought him from an individual who didn't have time for him.
Would he be considered a half breed because he's so tall and out of the "normal" weight class?

If any one can help ease my mind (or not) Mu husband bought me a new puppy from a pet store today. It's very playful drinks and eats normally but, When it takes a nap it is gasping for air and then pants. Could it just be nervous in a new home or do you think it might have health problems?

My dog ate two chocolate bars a couple of days ago when I wasn't home. He is acting normal and some of the almonds have come out in his poop. Do you think he will be ok?

I was petting my dog, and when I got to the abdomen area, I felt this lump in the middle of his abdomen. This is right above the penis of my dog. It almost feels like a vein because it's long and lean, I guess I could say I felt about an inch of it. Maybe it's just a vein and I'm freaking out, but is a vein supposed to be there right in the middle above the area? Or is it like a belly button?

I love wiener dogs and I want to know more about them. What I already know is that they can break thier spine real easy. I really like long haired wiener dogs. If you have any websites I should go to you have the fredem to tell me. Are they the right kind of dog for me? I like to watch movies and I like to go out side and play. I also like to cuddle up in bed and read. If you give me any kind of answer THANK YOU!

my doggy took her toy outside and left it there and didnt bring it back in when she came in from going potty. i didnt notice it was outside because i wasnt the last one to let her out to go potty but now its raining and shes walking around the house crying because she cant find it. its wet and i dont want it leaving wet trail marks all over the hardwood floors (im visiting at my moms or it wouldnt be such a big deal to me) its one of those like, stringy tug-of-war toys. you know like, the ones with the knots in it. i just dont want to put it in the dryer and ruin it. i dont know if it will melt or shrink or anything but she always carrys it around and sleeps with it, its like her security blanket. she doesnt like to be without it. does anyone know if it would be okay or so i just need to let it air dry?

Is it the same as a regular full size dog? A regular sized dog you are supposed to double the weight of the dog at 14 weeks and then you have the weight your dog is going to end up being as an adult.

My pup is 14 weeks and weighs 3.5 and is a maltese. Her dad is only like 4.5 and mom is 4 if that helps.

THANKS.

My shih tzu is going in next week for his first ever teeth cleaning. He is 5 years old.

The vet clinic did pre-screening bloodwork and everything was normal. They will also do a physical the day of the procedure.

It is my understanding that they use general anesthesia. Is there anything I should do to help prepare him for this?
