Yes, where do I begin?

We have seen everything from coccidia, to giardia, to open fontanels, to parvo, to distemper, to kennel cough, to dry eye, to hernias, to mites, to kidney failure, to stones, to colitis, to joint issues (dysplasia), to temperment issues (aggression)....

I see it happen all the time. Pet stores and the breeders that sell to them rarely do health testing on the parents and since they don't know where they puppies end up, they never hear about the problems the puppies had later. Puppies also go through a lot of stress being moved from the breeder to the broker to the pet store. Then at the store they are exposed to other puppies that may have different disease/viruses that they have never been exposed to before. Many pet stores only buy small puppies (underweight), because they sell better. Pet stores are not the most informed way to buy a pet.

Yes. Unfortunately I bought a puppy from a pet store 4 years ago, before I knew the horrors of puppy mills.

Not only did they charge us way too much for a mutt, but they couldn't even tell us what breed she was. They labeled her as a "terrierpoo" and charged us hundreds for her.

She has severe psychological problems, as well as a few health problems. She is very dog aggressive, due to lack of socialization as a young puppy. I doubt she was even with her mother the full 8 weeks that she was supposed to be. She also had serious issues being potty trained because she was used to just going potty in the cages that she had no doubt lived in all her life. She also barks more than normal, and no trainer has been able to fix that.

As for health problems, she has had many infections (bladder, urinary tract), she has a luxating patella, and gets other diseases very easily (she got ringworm from a kitten we were fostering, the other 2 dogs didn't). She has bad hips and knees and overall health.

If I had known beforehand, I never would have paid hundreds of dollars for a poorly bred dog, but unfortunately I didn't know any better. I still love her to death, but it makes me uneasy knowing that I supported a puppy mill.

Please see the www.hsus.org website, that is the Humane Society of the United States. Lots and lots of information about pet stores and puppy mills. I will NEVER buy an animal from a pet store after seeing the video. How sad for those poor animals.

Yes, my ex-boyfriend bought the dog I am nursing right now. She has eating disorders, a heart condition. I am convinced that if anyone else had gotten her she'd have been dead before 1yr of age. I am proud to say she is now 11 years old, I have her problems under control, but she is with me 24/7. If something happens to me , she'll not make it more than 2-3 days. This guy who bought her was trying to get me back, she was a X-mas present ! After checking her background, I found out she was bred in Kansas. Her age was exactly 8wks. to the day when I got her DEC.24th. So unless she was flown in(Yeh right). I wonder when she was taken from her Mom? I know she had no clue how to eat/only took water from my fingernails - for months. Before you say it - the vet kept saying she'll eat when he gets hungry enough - she was so weak. Problem is people/vets even don't understand what these poor pups go thru !!! Thank I have kept my precious girl with me so long & I'm glad I got her not someone else!!!!!

Hello
OK If you have not yet heard of all the horror stories that follow puppies that come from pet stores you need to do a bit of research as it is just so saddening it will bring tears to your eyes
Please do not buy from a pet-store Buy from a local reputable Breeder who has references and you are guaranteed to get a happy healthy life long Pal
Good Luck and Happy Holidays To all
Respectfully Yours
Anne

like it or not theres always going to be health issues on your dogs life

but of course the puppies at pet stores are sick bcuz they get in contact with other puppies and catch diseases

i think its better to get a puppy that was just taken away from its mother then one who has been sold to a person and that person resales it to someone else and they sale it to pet shops

Nope. Because I have never and will never buy a puppy from any pet store, well known or not. Most of them come from puppy mills, where the dogs and puppies are treated cruelly and/or neglected.

all dogs sold in a petstore are inferior quality.
A real breeder does not need the petstore middle man to sell their puppies.
the chances of getting a perfectly healthy pup from a store are next to nil but as long as there is demand, puppy mills will be happy to supply ,that leads to alot of dead dogs as pups grow up with problems and end up in kill shelters after they are no longer wanted

I don't believe any pet store sells "Healthy" Puppies. Pets stores tend to get their puppies from Puppy Mills.

No matter how well known the pet store is, no GOOD breeder would ever sell their puppies that way.
