I love wiener dogs and I want to know more about them. What I already know is that they can break thier spine real easy. I really like long haired wiener dogs. If you have any websites I should go to you have the fredem to tell me. Are they the right kind of dog for me? I like to watch movies and I like to go out side and play. I also like to cuddle up in bed and read. If you give me any kind of answer THANK YOU!

http://dachshund-dca.org/ is the dachshund club of america. Start here and then follow links for additional information.

No one here can tell you if they are the right dog for you, honestly. You are onthe right track by wanting to research, so I strongly suggest that you click the link above and begin your search. : )

This is the breed of choice of everyone in my family, except me.

In my family there are currently three. My dog has outlived two.

You have to manage their weight, because of their backs. They are wirey little dogs. If you have an active home (visitors ect.) they are not the dog for you. THey are very territorial. They are extremely loyal and generally latch on to one person. They should not be jumping up on furniture. Keep their skin moist and some have anal gland isssues (usually the males.) They are rather fragile. I would probablly say if you want a dog that you can take outside and play with, get something that is sturdier.

It doesn't sound like the right kind of dog for you. It's not just about breaking their spine- more often, they just get "a bad back" from going down stairs and so forth. A friend has one and they have to carry it up and down stairs to go out, they have to pick him up to sit on the couch and catch him before he tries to get down by himself.

They've had the dog for 3 years and have spent over $3,000 on back surgery (it hurt it's back twice).

i have a miniature daschund (weiner dog), and i love him! they don't break their spines easily, but can get back problems from going up and down steps too much or jumping on and off furniture too much. they can get nippy at times, though, so they aren't the best dog if you have children or plan on having them in the near future. my dog loves cuddling up in bed with a really soft blanket. he also loves playing outside when its warm, but he hates the snow. nobody can tell you if that's the right kind of dog for you. your best bet would be to go to your local petshop, and play with one.

We had one of the larger black and tan ones and he was so smart it was scary. He was warm, loving, near human, had more friends than I do and got invited to every birthday party within 3 miles, and thought he was every ones Mom, even our kittens.

He was healthy and had no back problems. He could sit up on his hind end and looked like one of the old bottle dolls. I think he was a "one of a kind" dog.

But alas....many of our friends got dachshunds thinking they were getting a "Wally": and only got dogs instead.

Why don't you check the AKC site? You can also just enter the breed & all kinds of information pops up.

We won't be able to tell you everything about the breed so you will have to do some research on your own.

they are great little dogs..you have to watch their weight..which leads to spinal problems..i have a friend who breeds them and her oldest dog i think is around 14 and has had to have back surgery...but she was also heavy
