I was petting my dog, and when I got to the abdomen area, I felt this lump in the middle of his abdomen. This is right above the penis of my dog. It almost feels like a vein because it's long and lean, I guess I could say I felt about an inch of it. Maybe it's just a vein and I'm freaking out, but is a vein supposed to be there right in the middle above the area? Or is it like a belly button?

Our dog jumped over a cinder-block and she developed a similar lump on her belly around the same area as you describe. Did your dog hit something? Ours is a Lab, so very rambunctious. Could be more serious though. I would go to Vet if it doesn't go down in a couple of days. Dogs can get tumors that protrude; but they can live a long life without having them removed.

It could be just about anything. I would say get to the vet. It could simply be a vein. Or, it could be a tumor. The only person that is able to answer the question is a vet.

is your dog a puppy? it is very possible that it is his belly button. if it is a vein it should feel very thin and recede when you touch it. if your dog is older you may want to take him in for an exam. there is a possibility it might be a tumor or some type of growth, which can be perfectly normal and not harmful. but you should probably have it checked out to be safe.

Step One: Back away from the computer.

Step Two: Call the veterinarian to make an apointment.

Step Three: If no appointment that day, go to the emergency Vet.

Step Four: Have him answer this question.

Step Five: Solution..YAY

Could be a number of things, a vein, belly button, hernia, etc.
Next time he is at the vets have him check it.

Honestly, none of us can tell you the answer to this.

If you are really "freaking out" as you say....call your Vet.
