It is called line breeding, and it is a very common type of breeding. You can look up the term on the web to research it. It is safe. And it is commonly done.
Please just make sure you have homes lined up for the puppies first. BSL makes breeding pits a little bit trickier in many areas. You want the puppies to have good homes.
Good luck.

Very high risk to breed a Pitt Bull that isn't temperament tested. Especially if it is only a pet quality dog. You have no idea what the blood line is & will probably compound faults & predispositions creating a bunch of very unhealthy Pitts. Pet quality dogs need to be fixed so they do not reproduce.
There are so many Pitts that are being killed in pounds all over the world & YOU want to create more. Wrong train of thought there. Get your dog neutered. NOW.
You actually sound like a troll.

Are you serious? Do you really think this is a good idea? Ok first off, you are obvously a back yard breeder and should never breed animals. Second, breeding a dangerous breed (I don't actually think that they are dangerous unless trained to be that way) is never a good idea because many places don't allow them and most the time they end up euthanized in shelters. When you breed an animal with their family the puppies usually end up with mental problems. You are asking for trouble, the adoptee's can and will sue you if they find out that that is what you are doing. If this is a joke you are dumb, if this is not a joke you are borderline mentally retarded. If you do not know what you are doing you should never breed and it is obvious that you have no clue.

No, no, NO! Why, you ask? Two huge reasons:
1) enough dogs are dying already in shelters. DON'T CONTRIBUTE TO IT! Spay the granddaughter, neuter the male!
2) inbreeding. Even experienced breeders rarely do it as it involves severe health risks and deformities. Not to mention that would be gross. Imagine having a baby with your grandfather. Would you like it?

It is called line breeding and is common among show dog breeders. Just remember you will be doubling up on both good and bad traits. Before doing the breeding have both of them OFA certified for their hips and tested for other genetic defects. If both are good sound dogs the puppies should turn out fine. I am guessing that there is a lot you like about both of these dogs or you would not be considering this breeding.

Spay and neuter your dogs.
Obviously you are just a backyard breeder or you would know that this is an awful idea. Inbreeding causes stillborn puppies (at its best) or puppies with lots of health disorders caused by an increased likelihood of combining recessive alleles. Also why are you breeding your dog anyway? Pitbulls aren't an AKC recognized breed - and I doubt your pit is a champion agility or show or field dog - so what are his puppies worth, $50 bucks a piece in front of a Wal-Mart to owners who are going to turn them into fighters or use them as bait for fighters or tie them in their backyards or dump them at the pound, so that they will be put down as "unadoptable."
Stop using your animals as vending machines to turn quick bucks - shame on you and get them spayed and neutered.

Line breeding is something that experienced breeders can do. They can do this becuase they know the attributes that they are trying to perfect and how the line genetics will turn out.
However, you do not sound like you should be breeding, much less line breeding.
I've seen estimates as high as ONE MILLION pit bulls being killed in shelters EACH YEAR. 99% of them come from breeders like you.
Be responsible.
If you love the breed, then don't breed your dogs.
http://www.pbrc.net/breeding.html is not an anti-breeding site, it's about being educated in regards to breeding. Read it.
Good luck, and I hope you choose to spay and neuter so that our tax dollars don't go towards the killing of your future puppies.

I wouldn't even Attempt it i live on a ranch we have cattle, dogs, sheep, horses, and i have sugar gliders. The one major thing in all these that is the same is the fact that u never cross relatives unless you know wat u r doin. The major Problems that could come from crossin your to dogs could be genetic deficiencies along w the possibilities of an abortion she could absorb the pups you might even have normal healthy lookin pups but they may be insane there is really no way to know i think it would just be safer by findin two different not related dogs for those two.

How many generations of the pedigree do you know? Have you tracked EVERY puppy he and his siblings have produced to see if there is any genetic ick? Have all health clearances (OFA for hips/elbows, CERF for eyes, clearances for heart and thyroid) been done on ALL his siblings (not just the breeding ones), his pups etc so you know what issues you may be dealing with? What did his father/mother/grandparents produce in terms of genetic ick. What is the entire pedigree (and siblings) like in terms of temperament?
Don't do it if you don't know.
The risk you take is in unknowingly doubling up on a fault or bit of genetic nastiness. Because you're doubling on the pedigree *IF* there is something it will likely come out.
Experienced breeders occassionally inbreed... and only then with a great degree of trepidation... and being aware they may have to cull an entire litter due to their taking chances.

no because they have the same genes and are related and your babies would have problems and birth defects. i know it seems like it wouldnt matter because they are generations apart but if you dont beleive me then look at the asianic lions.they have been inbreeding for THOUSANDS of years with different generations and one of their biggest problems is birth defects due to genetic problems so i dont think it would be safe and the person who said euthanize them is ignorant they are a loving breed and its people like micheal vick that give them a bad name. i can force someone to shoot someone but that doesnt make it that persons nature. it is the same with dogs. i am sure they would rather sleep and eat and be ahppy and love you all day than be deprived of basic needs and forced to fight every day and IF they live, they live with scars and pain for their whole short life. it is curel the name they have been given i had a pit bull that saved a babyes life once. if you would like to hear the story on that just email me pensacola_beach_party@yahoo.com. i hope you have a good day.
