I am a Vet Tech Student and we just finished studying ectoparasites (ie Fleas, ticks, mites, flies).

Capstar or there are sprays that work very well. If you go to your vet they can show you what these are and explain how they work. Treating and preventing fleas is not cheap. Be prepared to spend quite a bit.

Fleas spend 95% of their lives off the animal. This means you MUST treat your house and yard. "flea bombs" are not 100% effective. I would call an exterminator.

Once you get rid of the fleas you need to keep your pet on Frontline (the best product) every single month. Use "seven" (I'm pretty sure thats what it is), it's a sprinkel that you vacuum up. It kills and prevents fleas.

EDIT:
PLEASE DO NOT GO CHEAP!! If you waste your money on stuff from wal mart you can be putting your dog at risk. Fleas cause aneimias!!!!!!!! Make sure you get a heartworm test done on ALL animals to make sure these are not present. Fleas are the #1 carrier of heartworms. Also if you have other pets make sure to treat ALL other pets for fleas

You need to go get Capstar. It rids your dog of fleas almost immediately. Make sure you vaccuum your home once a day for about a week.

Also, you need to get the dog on a preventative. I prefer Sentinel. It is a five in one preventative. Having had a dog with heartworms, this is the main purpose. If you have a herding breed this is the best alternative as there is a chance that he/she has what is called a "black hole" in their DNA. This "black hole" causes the dog to seize and will usually cause death. Having to herding dogs in my home, this is the best thing ever and we don't take any chances.

You will have to go to the vet for this. They will also require a heartworm test in order to give you the preventative. It costs a little more, but by the time you buy all the flea stuff and the heartworm stuff, and round worm stuff... it's cheaper in the long run.

Also, I am not a big fan of the liquid stuff you apply. Many humans are allergic to it. If you allow your dogs on your furniture it also gets on there. So when your guests come over, they get ill.

First of all fleas are more then just on your dog they are also a environmental problem..b/c of this it'll take 3-4 months to get rid of them/ start to notice a difference. Sprays aren't very useful b/c the larva and pupa of fleas bury themselves very deep into teh floor..they will go in under the wood, so to make the spray work you'd have to spray every inch of the house. and even then it still might not full work. Baths work only on adult fleas on your dog at that moment.

The best solution is getting med from the vet.. there are three options. Advantage: This kills the adult fleas.. program: this makes it so eggs can not hatch..and then revolution this kills more then just fleas it also helps in with prevention of ticks, mites and other parasites.

I suggest talking over with your vet as to which med is right for your dogs..and lastly all animals must be treated! Fleas feed on the blood of an animal which is how the meds are given to them to kill them so if only one dog is treated they still can feed on the other.

You need to go to the vet and get a pill called Capstar - that will get rid of fleas within the hour.

Then you need to put your dog on monthly Frontline or Advantage, Frontline Plus or Advantix if there are ticks in your area.

You do this EVERY SINGLE MONTH - apply the liquid on the back of the dog's neck, part the hair, put it on the skin.

You will absolutely have no more fleas, larvea or eggs - but you must put the liquid on your dog every single month.

If your dog is THAT infested I would call your vet and pick up Capstar.

It is just as important to rid the dog of fleas as it is to rid the environment (home). If you leave even two of those little buggers behind, your dog will keep on getting infested. Break out the vacuum!

Once you rid your home of the fleas this boy needs to be on flea prevention monthly (frontline plus is my favorite).

Frontline, Advantage, Revolution or Advocate - all available from vets. You can use Capstar but it will only get rid of current fleas, you have to also apply one of the above products to keep them away. Do not use ANY flea treatment from a store.
