He has been registered, but I have lost the papers.

I got him from my sister, and she got him from a third party, but he's gorgeous, a perfect angel. A shame to waste his awesome genes!

If you are the registered owner, you can apply for replacement papers.

Contact the AKC for more information

Call AKC. There is a fee, but they can replace them.

AKC Customer Care
Telephone: 919.233.9767
8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. ET
weekdays (Monday - Friday) except holidays

You can only get the papers IF YOU were the owner of record. If you were not, and your sister was not, then you would have to contact the third party. Otherwise, you would be SOL.

If he is AKC registered & not Pedigreed he is a pet quality dog & needs to be neutered. He is nothing special.

AKC papers don't mean much unless you are competing for points towards a championship.

It is just a registry & nothing more.

well unless you are the registered owner it may not be easy..but not impossible..contact the previous owner and see if they can assist you... but his awesome genes are only worth reproducing if he has the right pedigree and proper health clearances have been done

being pretty is no reason to breed a dog so you really do not need to get renewal papers.
Contact AKC if you really do want them
however I do not see a valid reason listed for wanting to breed this dog?
Show him and if he wins then perhaps he is worth of breeding, test him in agility ,CGS ,or any number of areas to see if the dog truly is worth breeding then spend the money and get the dog OFA rated.
if your dog excells at all these THEN consider breeding him, just being pretty and friendly is never a reason to breed a litter.
