My Chi is 10lbs and not fat. He is very lean and tall. I dont have papers on him and bought him from an individual who didn't have time for him.
Would he be considered a half breed because he's so tall and out of the "normal" weight class?

I cant really go back to the owner, the dog was a gift to her from her boyfriend who got it from someone else.

No. He would only be considered a Mix if he is actually Mixed with another breed of dog.

Are humans who are really short not still humans??

Without papers there is no way to prove it is a purebred.
Some chihuahuas get large. There is one person near me that sells her pups as teacup chis. her chis come with papers but teh mother is 12 pounds and the father is 10 abd akk the pups I know have matured to between 10 and 12 pounds. Needless to say this person is a back yard breeder.

He wouldn't be considered "half breed" because of the way he looks - it would be based on his bloodlines. If one parent is not chihuahua, then he would be a "half breed" or a mutt.

There are Chihuahuas who look like this because of bad breeding, so it's entirely possible that your dog is purebred.

Lots of times pet quality purebred puppies are not within the standard weight or size. That is part of what makes them pet quality vs. show quality. No reason to think it is not a purebred Chihuahua, it is just not a show quality one. Most purebred dogs are pet quality rather than show quality.

Don't worry about it, just love him!

It could be mixed with some other breed but if you over feed they will get bigger The 6 lbs is the stander it means this is the weight it should be to be healthy it does not mean if you over feed it that it will not get to fat

Not neccescarily....it could be a different "kind" of chihuahua.....or maybe it could be a mix breed...you should ask the former owner

Some Chichis do get tall it just means he is no good to show and should not be bred.

He can still be too big for the standard and be purebred.

No, he could just be a poorly-bred chihuahua.

But since you have him, just love him for what he is.
