My family recently adopted a 4 year old Olde English Yellow Lab. She is super friendly and a great dog but she is always drooling! We keep a bandana tied around her neck to wipe the mess off her face but is there any way to stop the drooly bits from always coming out of her mouth?

otter: it was not a poor choice at all - she was going to be killed the day after if we did not adopt her. I'd rather take the drool then have a life wasted thank you.

You made a poor choice in this pet if you do not tolerate drool.
You can have the dog undergo a medical procedure to tighten its flews but that could result in killing the dog and as any surgery has the possibility of death

First make sure the dog does not have any lumps tumors or excessive scale build up on the teeth or gums also check to make sure its teeth do not have any problems which could be causing the excessive drool.
However,I wish you had done some research on this breed so that you would not be having problems now.

This isn't something you can train a dog not to do. The reason a dog drools, or doesn't drool, has to do with how their lips are shaped. If her lips are slightly droopy, she is going to drool, so you are just going to have to keep a bandanna around her neck.

I agree that the only other thing could be a medical reason, like a bad tooth or something. You can ask your veterinarian to look in her mouth.

Drooling might be medical. Check with a vet. It might just be a very bad habit. Every winter my dog drools a LOT. When I went to the vet he said it will soon pass and there is nothing to worry about. It could just be bad timing in the year.

There is no way you can keep a dog from drooling. If the dog has no history of drooling then there is a problem. If there is no history then go to your vet.Hope this helped! :) good luck

You don't. If the dog drools, unless there is a medical problem (check with the vet), then you just have to put up with the drool.

Make her carry around a towel in her mouth to soak it up.....no really you can't train a dog not to drool, it'd be like training a fish to be out of water.

Some breeds of dogs are nortorious for their slobber. If your dog has always been a drooler it is probably her nature. If it is something new get a vet check. Keep slobber rags around(cloth baby diapers work well).

Learning how to train your dog will improve your life and hers, enhance the bond between you, and ensure her safety and it can be a lot of fun. Dogs are usually eager to learn, and the key to success is good communication. Your dog needs to understand how you’d like her to behave and why it’s in her best interest to comply with your wishes.
