Unfortunately, your story is not an uncommon one. Spread the word....

Your poor puppy is the product of a puppy mill....where dogs are inter-bred. Puppy mills should be banned and the pet stores that buy from them should be closed. Not only do the dogs suffer, but the owner does, too....with medical expenses and worry.. I got a dog from a pet store, and had bills up to $1500....he had a lung infection, mange, conjunctivitis, and mal-formed hips. My vet labeled him"unfit for purchase", actually. Of course, I kept him, because we fell in love with him at first glance, but I did sue the pet store...got some money back, but not all.
Sheppies and Goldies are famous for bad hips...that is why you should have gone to a breeder..where they can produce a line that is free of hip problems...Mom and Dad are healthy and are not pre-deposed to that problem.
Hip replacement at 4 months?...that's pretty young. She will probably need it down the road...not now, no? Anyhow, good luck to yu and your puppy. Sheppie pups are so cute!

Although most pet store dogs are obtained from puppy mills, hip replacement surgery in german shepherds is not uncommon for the breed. They have numerous health issues that are associated with the breed. I have two GSD's and I love them even with all the problems. They are a great dog, and I would suggest that you get your pup the needed surgery so that he will be healthy in his adult life. They are worth it, no matter the cost.

Pet stores think they are doing the right thing when they buy from puppy mils (helping the needy). Some don't. Next time go to web sites like www.puppyfind.com or newspaper articles. Sorry about your German shepherd pup. Hope she will be alright.

Another reason why people should not buy dogs from a pet store. I wonder if you could ask where they got the dog from and talk to the "breeder" (and I use that term lightly). It's sad because you are probably attached to it already. I would definitely tell the pet store the problems you are having (maybe take a letter from your vet documenting the problems) and ask them to pay for your vet bills. Then get a lawyer!

Too bad that you (and the other hundreds who have experienced similar situations) were not aware of puppy mills before purchasing your dog there.

Please spread the word so that this doesn't happen to anyone else. Maybe if you're lucky, the pet store will be closed down after enough bad press.

I feel for you. unfortunatley, as they said, a majority of dogs from pet stores come from pup mills.

i wish you the best of luck to you and your puppy!

Pet store animals are generally from breeding mills or irresponsible, money hungry backyard breeders. These people breed with no regard to health (unless the animal dies before they get their money). They have no ethics. Many pet stores have no ethics buying from them.

I'm sorry that this happened to you and I'm sorry for your puppy.
