She is not an outside dog but she does potty outside. I know she does not have fleas. Could it be dry skin? Since we do live in the Mid-West?

like having large dog for outdoor activities, something big but a couch potato is for me. i admire the look of the greyhound, i have done research on the web and am sure this would be a good breed for my family. problem--i dont have a fenced in yard, and coming up with a couple of hundred dollars at one time is hard. my vet will hold checks for me so that is no problem as far as medical care. i already have poodles, but as i said i really would love to find a new go everywhere dog.

Someone says

"You do know that the same gene that causes hairlessness causes retardation? He probably has no concept of what he did "wrong". Just crate the dog and keep the kids away."

People can't seriously believe that to be true can they? Maybe the answerer is bald and knows this to be a fact?

Thx

PLEASE ANSWER THIS QUESTION ONLY, AND ONLY IF YOU HAVE A GOOD UNDERSTANDING AND KNOWLEDGE OF THE ACTUAL BREED...NOT JUST DOGS!

Hi, I have a 10 week old male English Mastiff that I am feeling low protein, low fat kibble. He is currently about 18 pounds and will grow to be approximately 160-180. He definitely has some pent up energy in him and is expressing it through unwanted behavoir (chewing, whining, restlessness, etc.). He does not enjoy going for walks...after about 5 minutes he just sits down on the sidewalk and pretty much refuses to move. I assume this is partly because of this breed, genetics, and some growing pains. He is getting the huge joint" knuckels" which the vet says is perfectly normal. Overall, he's a very healthy, aloof, happy-go-lucky dog. Now my question is, how do I get out that excessive energy and frustration through means other than physical exercise (I dont want to injure his joints)? Training does not do much for him as he just gets frustrated.

Thanks

My 3 1/2 month old Shih Tzu puppy started humping today. I was wondering if it is possible that she is going into heat. The vet hasn't spayed her yet (he wants to wait till she is 5 months). Could she start bleeding at this young of a age? Also do you think a vet will fix her sooner?

Does any one have any tips on how I can get my 11 mo. old Lab Retriever from chewing up everything when he's alone in the house?! I've already tried giving him chew toys (nyla bones, rubber toys, rawhide, etc.),I've tried bitter sprays & that doesn't seem to phase him, I kept things out of reach only for him to start chewing on the furniture, I've tried crating him & he chewed through his METAL crate! Aargh! I love him to death & I know he is still young, but is there anything else I can try???

Thanks in advance

OK guys... there is no reason for this question. Just a brain fart that I had.
Think hard and answer truthfully.
The best answer that answers all parts gets the points!!!
You are a dog and you are in the pound.
What kind of dog are you?
Why are you there?
Do you think that you would get adopted?
Why or why not?
What traits do you have that make you a good good canidate for adoption and which ones get you closer to being put to sleep?
Pick your breed if you like but this may take more soul searching than that.
Good Luck Everyone!

He is 10 months old, and was fixed when he was only 4 months.

He did not have an erection - so what were those bulges? Is this normal?

I never saw this before.

I believe that one of my dogs is pregnant, her stomach is much bigger and she was in heat just a couple months ago, but she keeps yelping and screaming, like she's in pain, she didn't do that in her first pregnancy and I'm wondering if this is normal or if she's having some complications that needs to be taken care of right away.

Hey everybody-

Just wondering what made you choose your breed of dog (if you have a breed). Maybe it's their looks. Maybe it's their temperment. Maybe both. From Chihuahuas to Great Danes I think everybody has a certain breed that touches their heart or that shares their home. Maybe you've never even had a chance to own your favorite breed, but what makes a certain breed appealing to you? I know I've never owned a Great Pyrenese, but I've met a few at the shelter with exceptional personalities and I love them. For responsible breeders out there and everyday dog owners....what made you choose your breed? Did you grow up with them? Do you work with them? Do you find that once you've owned a certain breed you find that you're always going back to that breed? Why is that? Or maybe you have a breed that you hate (even if you've never met that breed of dog)....why do you think that is?

I've grown up with GSDs and I know that I'll always have one. Once a GSD lover always a GSD lover :)

My dog had puppies on Saturday. I read that I should take the afterbirths away as the puppies are born, so my dog won't eat them because it causes diarrhea. I wasn't home when she went into labor and she ate 5 afterbirths. Everything went fine with the births and we have 6 healthy puppies, but I'm just kind of waiting for her to get diarrhea. Its monday afternoon and all she's had is a lot of gas (she's eating and drinking normally and going outside to go to the bathroom, but not unusually often). Does anyone have experience with their dogs eating afterbirths? Did it give them diarrhea?

I know they're bad for dogs because of swellings in the guts but my dog gets one to chew on sometimes. He's the kind of dog that I don't see much of a risk for as he's not a heavy chewer. Judge only will chew when there's humans nearby. He really only scrapes his back teeth against it, probably because he came to us with poor dental health and his gums and teeth are weak. Plus he has a Nylabone available as well which he normally prefers. Is it safe for him to have some rawhide sometimes?
