Samoyed: I grew up with Samoyeds. My grandparents bred them. I love their beauty and brains, the fact that they are wily, conniving, pain in the a** dogs with a big smile and a happy spirit. I love the "negotiation" process of training them and the challenge of getting inside their wee little heads to figure out how best to convince them they really DO want to do what I'm telling them to do. I love their primative outlook on life. I love the fact that they love me despite the fact I am not their god.
Bernese: I love their brawn and working dog ethic. I love their need to attempt to do everything in their power to make me happy. I love the fact that they have no concept of their size and believe throughout life that they are lapdogs. I love their deep souls. I love the fact that they believe I am their god.

The breed I've always had around is the Schnauzer.. (only had mini and standard.. mother would not allow a giant).. they are full of personality, they do fine when left alone.. (especially in pairs) they are problem solvers.. and really bond with one person (normally me) well..
My top breed of choice is the Irish Wolfhound.. I've met quite a few even though I've never owned one.. and they are wonderful. They are huge.. but not that heavy.. they need alot of exercise, but are couch potatos.. Every one I've met had a great personality.. similar to schnauzers really.. somewhat independant, but also good as "pack" members.. My only reason for not getting one is that I don't live in a place that I feel is appropriate.. a small yard with city ordinances prohibiting fences over 4 feet tall.. so, not very safe for a dog that can jump that without thinking about it.. (and close to a major road as well.)
My most recent dog.. (In Feb. it will be 2 yrs that I've had him) is a Beagle Basset mix.. I wasn't particularly looking for the breeds... I went to several rescue organizations and talked to the ones that actually were there to talk to.. they didn't have anything that fit my life at the time.. (I was looking for a somewhat older dog.. not a puppy and my roomate had a 5 yr old daughter so they were a bit picky on what we should look for).. they knew someone looking for a home for a dog she found as a stray.. after not finding the owner she got him fixed, heartworm treated, and put him on a diet.. and contacted the rescue.. we went to meet him.. the lady talked to us for about 2 hours or so.. we walked him.. and despite the fact that she hadn't planned on it.. decided we could take him home that night. I don't know if I'd actively LOOK for another beagle, but I wouldn't turn one away either..

When I first started looking at getting a dog, I knew that I wanted a small dog, that would be more for in-doors than out-doors. I watched a lot of dog shows on TV and listened to what the announcers had to say about each breed. After narrowing that dog, I narrowed down even further by looks and coat. I wanted a short-coated breed, so that I didn't have to take them to get groomed every 4-6 weeks. This got it down to a Doxie, and a Boston. Doxies are know to have back problems due to having the long backs, which only left a Boston.
In researching the Boston even further, I found that this was actually the perfect dog for me. If I could only change the fact that he doesn't like the water (ocean)... but we're working on it. :)

I grew up with brittany spaniels , spaniel mixes and lab mixes.
I like these dogs due to their high energy drive, their personality and pretty much everything about the breed.
My dad always had a couple brittany spaniels , for hunting, but these dogs were always great family pets too. I have now owned a cocker spaniel, a cocker spaniel/lab mix , a rottie and a brittany spaniel. Im positive Ill always have a spaniel because these are truly my favorite breed. Although my dogs dont hunt, or compete in agility I stll love to see a dog do what it was bred for. The next dog I own will probably be a king charles spaniel, this breed has recently captured my heart and i would love to own one within the next couple years. Im just worried because this breed is prone to a lot of health problems, and will be the smallest dog ive ever owned. I cant live without my spaniels.

Well the dog that lives with me today, Chili, is a shetland sheepdog mix. Mix with what? To this day, I still don't have a clue. But I really think that she's a mixture of collie. I think this because she's medium sized. Shelties are small, so she has to be mixed with something somewhat big. And she has the face of a collie.
Here's a pic of her!
http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x304/chidiot/Chili.jpg
Why I picked her? Well I always wanted a dog. We wanted to adopt a dog, because they deserve a second chance. Well when I finally persuaded my parents to let me have one, my dad went searching on the web. We soon found her, and I fell in love with her. Now she's here, living with me!
And my favorite breed? I have many. I love all dogs. But my ultamite favorite is the Pembroke Welsh Corgi. Why? I don't have a reason. I just love them, they're adorable. And I love their stumpy tails. I also love Siberian Huskies. Just so pretty. These are my two favorite breeds, course I like more. I'm starting to love the dachshunds and great danes.
When I grow up, I'm gonna have four dogs! Who knows, maybe the four types I listed will be what I will have. Why four? Four just seems to be a good number...

I actually have 3 dogs, all different breeds. We have a Puggle (Lily), a Papillon (Tyke) & a Long Haired Chihuahua (Acey). We never even knew what a "puggle" was until we saw her the day we went searching for our perfect pup... she was simply adorable & she's got the best personality that I've ever seen. Our Papillon is such a lover... he's the guy that when you are having a bad day will lay on your chest looking @ you with eyes that make you smile! & our chihuahua is a CRAZY dog! They all fit so perfectly together... it's simply wonderful! I also love the "English Bulldogs" however, we can not have any more dogs as we live in an apartment (it's not as small as many are thinking).
I think that too many people base what breed they buy on looks alone... I based mine on PERSONALITY! :)

I prefer GSDs because of the personalities and intelligence. They are also the breed with which I'm most familiar.
I grew up with them and also have had other dogs, but this will always be my favorite.
Before I got the dog I have now, I was thinking about getting a Great Dane, but I saw this guy and it was love at first sight.
He's a rescue b.t.w.

I grew up with Poodles and German Shepards, even had a Great Dane once I was on my own. I now have Miniature Pinchers and an American Hairless Terrier, most of these dogs were rescued dogs. I love all of my dogs so very much -- the hairless has a personality all his own. I definitely would want more AHTs if I were to have any more dogs -- They are really great.

We actually have both a Chihuahua AND a Great Dane. I know that seems strange at first but both breeds have similar care needs. You have to be cautious because of their size, they both need to be indoor pets, you need keep them at a moderate temperature, and they are both lap dogs. LOL. Okay, well, the Dane tries hard, anyway. :)
I have always wanted a great, big, mountain of a dog but we got our Chi first. It was the only size dog my husband would agree to. After we had our Chi for several years, my husband saw how cool he was, I trained him extensively (the Chi, not my husband), and we bought a bigger house my husband bought me the Dane of my choice for my birthday.
I got my Dane because I wanted a giant dog that was known for being good with children AND had short hair. I love her loving nature and she is such a beauty. She is an all-purpose, athletic dog and a natural guardian. I have taken her to obedience classes, am getting her tested to do TDI, and just took her to her first agility class which she loved. I go biking with her and she has a backpack for hikes. I would love to teach her how to cart but I need to find a mentor first.
Our dogs don't get along as well as we'd like. It's not so much their size that is the issue but their age differences. Our Dane is a puppy and our Chihuahua is a grumpy, old man that is easily annoyed by the young whipper-snapper. We like both breeds a lot but I think I will always want to have a Dane in the house.

I never thought I'd like anything as much as I liked goldens. I grew up with them and owned a couple on my own. Until I got my first standard poodle. They're smart, beautiful, athletic and have the most fun personalities. I've been hooked every since and am owned by 2 now.
Of course, if I wasn't a groomer I probably wouldn't have one because of the grooming costs. If you want any length to their coats at all, there is a LOT of maintaince.
I am not a fan of chows. My experiences with them have almost been all negative, they're very unpredictable. Off the top of my head they're probably my least favorite.

My breed is a cocker spaniel. What first attracted me to the breed were their big eyes and soft expression, their big ears and their beautiful coats. After getting to know a few, I fell in love with their happy dispositions, waggy tails, and loyalty to their owners. I got my first cocker in 1984....owned them ever since.
Just about a year ago, I bought my first miniature dachshund. I wanted another dog, but I wanted something smaller than a cocker and didn't want all the grooming and high maintenance that comes with a cocker. My friend who owns the grooming shop where I work part time shows and breeds miniature dachshunds. I had the opportunity to get to know her dachshunds and so when she had a litter, I bought Hannah. She's just great and I wouldn't doubt that sometime in the near future, I'll get another mini dachshund....but next time, a wire haired. My friend bought a wire haired about a year ago and she will be showing her soon. When she's finished, I already have my name in for one of her puppies!
