My 3 1/2 month old Shih Tzu puppy started humping today. I was wondering if it is possible that she is going into heat. The vet hasn't spayed her yet (he wants to wait till she is 5 months). Could she start bleeding at this young of a age? Also do you think a vet will fix her sooner?

It is not sexual, it is dominance at this point. Do not allow her to hump anything. I would not tolerate that behavior. The youngest I have ever seen/heard of a dog doing into heat was towards the end of 6 months of age. She is much too young being just under 4 months. Do not rush her in to be spayed earlier, wait until her appointment at 5 months. No worries.

She's humping because she's showing her dominance. At 3 1/2 months, she really is too young to go into heat. It's usually around 6 months. I think your vet is correct. 5 months is plenty soon to have her spayed.

She's too young to go into heat. Humping hasn't got a single thing to do with going into heat - it's merely a bit of dominance. You can safely wait until she's 5 months old to spay her.

Dogs don't go into heat till at least 6 months of age. Humping is a natural thing for them at any age.. If there is no bleeding then she isn't in heat.

I doubt it. Humping doesn't have anything to do with it. And that won't necessarily stop her from humping.

No. They must be around two years old before you can expect puppies.
